After ten years playing coffee shops, singer and songwriter Sutter Knight has finally cracked the top ten on the country music charts and is winding down her first tour. To celebrate and reconnect with her Smoky Mountain roots, she heads home to Sweet Tea, Tennessee only to discover the historic theater where her love of music was born is about to be torn down. Worse, her high school sweetheart who used to perform with her is spearheading the project. More disturbing–his deep blue eyes and smile still have the power to kick up her heart rate and make her forget her own name.

After college, architect and contractor Dawson Yates returned home for family and to build his business and reputation. What better way to achieve his goals than to transform a damaged and dangerous community eyesore into a hotel that will bring jobs to Sweet Tea? Dawson doesn’t expect to meet strong and charming resistance from the woman he loved and hasn’t forgotten. Sutter might be vowing to stop the demolition and put his project at risk, but soon, Dawson’s more worried about losing his heart again.

A Country Love Song is such a bittersweet romance between two people who had loved each other from childhood and allowed their dreams to send them in different directions separately instead of making that journey together.  Sutter had turned to Nashville and further musical training for her dream of a music career.  Dawson had taken the full sports scholarship up North to get his architectural degree.  Each has had their hard knocks years and each are now finding success in their chosen fields.  Now ten years later Sutter has made an impromptu visit to her hometown of Sweet Tea, Tennessee and makes a discovery that will pit her against the boy she’d loved… and the man he’s become.

I had my suspicions early on as to what exactly had divided Dawson and Sutter all those years ago.  And I freely admit that that fact angered me for this couple.  No spoilers as that’s not fair, yet good intentions are sometimes the worst possible thing that can happen to a person.

Sutter is impulsive and passionate, she definitely takes no flack from anyone.  She’s quite willing to face down Dawson over a project that she feels strongly about, and is willing to put her talent and connections to good use to change fate.  I believe the most touching scene (and there were many) was when Dawson stumbled on the stairs in his office when learning Sutter was back in town.  This is a man who loved deeply, and perhaps only once in his life.  That love hadn’t died and that reaction brought that fact home to the reader very strongly.

I enjoyed this couple very much.  A Country Love Song is an emotional journey for everyone involved.  A second chance… perhaps.  A continuation of a love that never lost it’s flame, more likely.  If you love Romance then this is a story that you’ll want to pick up.  It is full of all the emotions, good and bad, that loving, losing and finding that one person again could possibly create.  I’m looking forward to the next story in this series, and would recommend it for any Romance reader who loves a solid story, believable characters and holds onto hope that a wrong can be made right eventually.
