No one understands family loyalty like Jack McShane. He’d do anything to honor his foster father’s last wishes, even if it means putting his own plans on hold to manage Joe’s construction business. An ex–Special Forces operative, Jack thrives on the thrill of globe-hopping rescues. But now he’s needed closer to home. His foster mother has her hands full with a troubled teen, and when Jack meets the hired tutor, he discovers a woman who stirs his protective instincts—and his deepest desires.
Caitlyn Curtis knows that good looks can hide a hot temper. After an abusive marriage crushed her dreams of a happy ending, she swore off men—until one intoxicating dance in Jack’s strong arms breaks down every emotional barrier. Tough but tender, he leaves Caitlyn yearning for more of his gentle seduction. Despite the violence he’s seen, Jack is a good man. And even though passion can be dangerous, the promise of Jack’s kiss tempts her to believe that love is a risk worth taking.
Read on for my thoughts on Always For You: Jack. No true spoilers, promise.
We aren’t always born into family, sometimes we end up making our own unique family from non-blood relations. Jack and his foster brothers were taken in by Marlene and Joe, eventually adopted they all created a loving, strong family of their own. When Jack’s father passed away, his mom needed him back home – and Joe’s will firmly placed Jack at the head of the family and the family’s construction company. Jack is a rescuer and a nurturer, even when he’s not so sure about the latter. When a young, troubled and in trouble teen enters Jack’s life he will do anything he possibly can to make sure that Ricky has a good shot at life. The similarities between Jack and Ricky are enough for Jack to take on the teen and put the knowledge and love that his adoptive family taught him to work to change Ricky’s path in life.
Caitlyn has escaped an abusive marriage. She has no plans to ever again tie her life with another man. She’s just fine on her own, and her work is enough for her at this point in her life. When she is brought into Jack and Ricky’s lives to help get the teen up to speed for the coming school year she never expected the connection she felt with them both. Can she trust the emotions that swirl around her now? Is it possible to believe in happiness when she’s known the exact opposite for so long?
Always For You Jack is such a deep, touching story. One that is not simply a romance, but a slice of life for those who have faced a different definition of “family” and the cruelties that bad relationships can bring. Ricky touched me on so many levels and I ached and cheered for him and his accomplishments throughout his journey in this new life. The romance between Caitlyn and Jack was solid, each well aware of the impact they could have on a young teen’s life. Family can be made, and this couple was determined to create a life for themselves and Ricky that would last, solid, strong and full of the unique love that those who make up their own families understand.
I would highly recommend Always For You Jack to any romance reader, but also this is a deeply touching story beyond the romance. One that you won’t want to miss. It also is the first in the Sargent Joe’s Boys series and it sets that series up well. I’m looking forward to the next story in this series.
