The only fire he can’t put out…

Jordan McKenna is back in town, and Fire Chief Gavin McGuire’s feelings when he sees her after all these years are as raw as the day she left. Then he was just a kid wearing his heart on his sleeve. Now he spends every day trying to atone for the tragedy he couldn’t prevent.

Is the torch he carries for her…

Jordan’s life has not exactly worked out the way she expected. A divorced mother of two with a failed acting career, Jordan’s biggest concern about coming back to Old Brookfield was seeing her first love. But when a series of suspicious fires breaks out, Jordan and Gavin realize that dealing with the sparks between them may be the least dangerous of their problems.

Read on for my thoughts on Brave the Heat.  No true spoilers, promise.

Gavin and Jordan had been the first love for each other.  Then Jordan ran.  Ran from an abusive father right into the arms of an equally abusive husband.  Now she’s come home, back to Old Brookfield with her two young daughters to restart her life and deal with her past.  Jordan knows she hurt Gavin by her silence all these years, that pain is still evident in his eyes as he watches her.  Gavin still holds on to the guilt that he couldn’t save Jordan, couldn’t keep her safe with him.  They will get a second chance at love, even though an arsonist is loose and endangering their town.  Gavin has battles that he has no intention of losing.

Brave the Heat is the first story in the new series, The McGuire Brothers.  I love coming in on the very beginning and being able to look forward to each new discovery as the series continues.  I’ve enjoyed Sara Humphreys’ Paranormal Romances and was so pleasantly surprised when she took on the Contemporary Romance world as well.  With Brave the Heat she has proven that a good storyteller isn’t bound to one genre, ever.

There is just something about first loves that never leaves you, no matter what life brings.  When first loves get a second chance to make their love complete it’s just pure enjoyment.  Gavin is such a hot fireman, and I ain’t talking heat here.  *wink*  He is also such a sweetheart with Jordan’s little girls.  Now everyone knows that little girls have a special talent for wrapping big, burly men around their tiny little fingers and these two were no exception.  He opened his heart to all three of his girls and it was such joy to see them all finally blend into a family.  Blood isn’t needed to make a family, only love.

Jordan has to deal with the decisions she made years ago – and with a father who now remembers nothing of their past.  His failing health and dementia will play a part in how Jordan lets go of her past and looks to the future.  Of course, her scumbag of an ex has to try to make trouble.

I was completely captivated by the characters and story of Brave the Heat and look forward to meeting the rest of the brothers and their loves.

If you love a good second chance at love story with a few twists, then Brave the Heat is perfect for your reading pleasure.  I would highly recommend this novel and series to romance lovers everywhere.

*I received an e-ARC of Brave the Heat from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
