When Laurel West discovers her estranged sister Abby has checked herself into rehab and wants her to take care of her fourteen-year-old son, she doesn’t hesitate to step in. Abby was there for Laurel a long time ago, and she longs to be able to offer the same. However, as a single woman who still dreams of the fairy tale, Laurel isn’t prepared for teenaged Zac’s sullen moods or silent rage. When he’s expelled from school, she decides to take drastic measures and temporarily relocate them to her great aunt’s cottage on the windswept hills of the Orkney Islands north of Scotland… about as far as she can run from their problems, but will it be far enough?

From the moment they step onto the island’s shores, everything seems to go wrong… including a run-in with eccentric sheep farmer Archie MacDougall. When Zac gets in trouble at the village pub and is rescued by Archie, Laurel thinks things are only getting worse. But Archie’s suggestion of putting Zach to work on his farm might be the change he needs, and Laurel strikes up a surprising friendship with a man who is about as far from the fairy tale as she can imagine. Can such an unlikely and impractical love bloom in such a brief moment out of reality? And will two lost and lonely souls find each other at the edge of the world?

CHRISTMAS AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD is a quick romance with characters who are facing challenges and not always believing in themselves along the way.  Laurel has taken custody of her estranged sister’s son, Zac, while his mother is in rehab.  They haven’t seen each other in years and this surly, sullen teen isn’t exactly what Laurel thought she was going to be dealing with.  A brainstorm full of past happy memories prompts her to take them to the islands of Orkney practically at the top of the world.  What she discovers there weren’t the fond childhood memories but even more troubles with Zac, a falling-down cottage and one quiet sheep farmer, Archie.  An unlikely pair for a romance, but the right person is there for us all – we just have to find each other.

Most of what you’d need to know about this story before picking it up can be found in the Cover Description.  A fast-paced romance, Archie and Laurel find not only each other but a way to help Zac deal with his life, one in chaos right now.  I enjoyed the story yet I didn’t feel I knew Archie very well by the ending.  Told from Laurel’s point of view I saw him through her eyes.  I liked them together, I simply wish I could have felt that Archie was more involved in their story, I didn’t feel that way, unfortunately.  CHRISTMAS AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD is full of family, the ways we will always have their backs even when life has gotten in the way.  The sisters grabbed my heart as I waited for answers, reconciliation for them both.

I enjoyed myself in this world, and that’s the entire point.  If you’re looking for a quick Christmas romance that will touch your heart, bring you some beautiful scenery and people who care about others – then you’ll enjoy this one.
