Will he face his past or run from his future?
Ethan Thompson has been a part of the Martin family since he was a troubled teen and Susannah Martin saved him. He’s always done everything in his power to help the Martins, especially the oldest daughter Penelope. But he’s always made sure to keep himself just separate enough to safeguard his heart against the straight-talking beauty.
Pen Martin-Wakefield moved home to Last Stand, Texas, with her three girls hoping it would give them all a fresh start after her husband’s tragic death. She’s ready to move on, and as she deals with the stresses of a holiday season and a broken arm, she realizes Ethan is always the one she’s leaned on.
Ethan’s determined to resist Pen and her girls. He’s got too many secrets and scars to be any good for them, but as a Christmas in Last Stand works its magic, Ethan begins to find out just how tenacious Pen is and how lonely his heart has been.

Title: Christmas for the Deputy
Series: Bad Boys of Last Stand, Texas #2
Author: Nicole Helm
Genre: Modern Western Romance
Published: October 17, 2019
Publisher: Tule Publishing
My Rating: 4.5 stars
CHRISTMAS FOR THE DEPUTY is an emotional and quite satisfying romance between two very stubborn people, each with their own issues to overcome on the road to a happy ending. Most of what you need to know before picking up this second story in the Bad Boys of Last Stand series can be found in the Cover Description. What that can’t show you is the intensity of the characters, both main and secondary, in keeping promises, never losing control, and keeping secrets buried deep. I believe the dynamics of the Martin family and the three troubled youths that were brought into the fold of this family really needs to start with the first story in the series. I’d gently suggest reading this series in order to get the whole story for there were promises made that resulted in changed lives.
I was easily caught up in Ethan and Pen’s romance. Such stubborn people. Watching Pen have to allow someone else in to help, seeing Ethan struggling with his past and opening up about it to Pen was an emotional experience. Yet the scene stealers here are three young girls who have lost so much and will gain even more once Ethan and their mother get their acts together and realize they love each other, the forever kind of love. I had fun and that’s the whole point of reading romance – especially a Christmas themed Romance. Now I’m waiting for another “bad boy” to find his happiness in the next story. If you love a really good romance, a touch of Christmas, stubborn people and watching them discover that they are stronger together then you’ll want to pick up CHRISTMAS FOR THE DEPUTY (or the entire series) real soon.
