Still angry over the death of the woman he loved, rancher Marshall Boyer wants nothing to do with women or love. But when the mysterious Emma drops into his life—barefoot, broke, and running scared—he can’t let her go.
Artist Emmaline Katz has a dangerous secret. After escaping a ruthless criminal who exploited her for years, her quest for freedom crashes to a halt in rural Montana. Out of money and options, she finds an unlikely haven with a handsome cowboy. But no matter how much she wants to believe his offer of protection, he doesn’t know the truth about her, her secret, or the man who will stop at nothing to get her back.
Time is running out. A cold-blooded killer has come to town, and Emma isn’t the only target.
Title: Devil’s Way Out

Genre: Modern Western Romance, Romantic Suspense

My Rating: 4.5 stars
DEVIL’S WAY OUT will draw you in quite easily to a well-layered story with some totally unexpected twists along the way. While this is definitely a Modern Western Romance with Romantic Suspense aspects to it – there is also just enough of a touch of the Paranormal Romance genre to grab my attention quite firmly.
This is also an emotional story on several levels as you get Emma’s backstory, slowly over time, and come to understand the horrors she’s been through to get to the point of finding Marshall and this quirky small town that offers her refuge and hope for the future. I loved Emma’s “gift” as well as her talent for bringing her art to life. I’d also love to talk about Emma more, but that would involve spoilers and you really should read DEVIL’S WAY OUT for yourself to get the impact of certain twists and events.
I believed Marshall and Emma as a couple, and that is important to my enjoyment of any genre of Romance. There is definitely danger in this story, there is also hope, love, some sexy chemistry, definitely quirky residents of this small town and secondary characters that I can only hope get their own tales told one day. I was easily caught up in this story, didn’t want it to end, and would gladly recommend it to any reader who loves a good Romance with a few unexpected twists.
