For me, Her Favorite Cowboy was one of those stories where I spent so much time wanting to shake both the main characters and set them down for a stern talking to.  Talk about stubborn, bull-headed, control freak.  Yeah, in different ways that describes both Layla and Tyson.  But in this case I was more on Tyson’s side for Layla simply came off as too over the top frustrating for me to like her very much.  I understood that her reasons made sense to her, but she never gave Tyson a chance to complete a sentence before she was off misunderstanding what he actually tried to say while crying behind closed doors waiting for him to come after her… after she’d cut him down to the size of a walnut.  *sigh*  Yeah.  Stubborn is a word.  It irked me that most of Tyson’s family stood against him firmly on Layla’s side.  It was during a crisis when she couldn’t trust Tyson to do what he did best even if it was against all logic… I was pretty much done with trying to like Layla and only hoped for a happy ending for Tyson’s sake.  Harsh maybe.  Yet it took two people to make their baby, it will take two people, equal in this relationship to make it work or it’s all for nothing.  Layla couldn’t let go of controlling everything and as a result I had little empathy for her.

Now, simply because characters frustrate me along the way, let’s not have a misunderstanding of our own – I did enjoy Her Favorite Cowboy on many levels.  Tyson and Layla kept the story lively with their bantering, misunderstandings and stubbornness.  It was also very enjoyable to catch up with the other Watson brothers and their wives who we’ve come to know and love from previous stories.  While Tyson is the youngest brother, I’m hoping that there is another series planned for some distant cousins we met as secondary characters.  I pay attention to secondary characters and this one was hard to miss, but his actions and his attitude made a major turn around – and I’m hoping to know his and his brothers story some day.  It would also be a great chance to catch up with our Watson brothers… just sayin’.  *grin*

If you’re in the mood for a romance that will definitely get you emotionally involved, then Her Favorite Cowboy is perfect for you.  You don’t “have” to have read the entire series to enjoy this one.  There is enough subtle backstory to let you know who is who and how they came together.  I’d recommend reading the entire series simply because they’re good stories you won’t want to miss.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
