You can’t go home again.

Devlin Braxton never thought he’d test those words and return to Braxton, Texas – the town where generations of his family had ranched honorably. Not him. As an undercover agent who spent years infiltrating the underbelly of a drug cartel with a local pipeline, everyone thought he was the devil-may-care, good-for-nothing, playboy he pretended – even his family. After the massive bust and the shoot out that nearly killed him, Devlin is ready to discover who he is and where he belongs.

Marissa Flanagan has fought for her place in Braxton. First, she had to live down the pity and gossip when she was jilted by her fiance, then prove her professional worth when the town’s beloved – and male – vet retired. She’s finally made her peace or so she thinks until Devlin Braxton shows up at her door with a proposition.

They have a past, will Devlin’s blue eyes and pulse-stopping kisses convince her he’s changed and that they might have a future?

Her Secret Cowboy brings the trilogy/series of Blood Brothers to an emotional, intense close – or at least, appears to do so.  I’ve learned to never say ‘the end’ to any series and there are people I’d love to know more about in this world.  Maybe one day.

A big part of the reason why I love and read so many series is the expended story of a family or group of close friends.  There are two sides to every story and often, to every person as well.  That is particularly true with Devlin Braxton who is known around his home town as a flirt, playboy, love ’em and then leave ’em behind kind of guy – which is exactly what Dev needed people to believe in order to continue to successfully do his job as an undercover agent.  That job nearly got him killed by the end of a huge bust he’d been working on.  Now it’s time to reassess, rethink his future and what he wants for himself after a close brush with death.  And he wants to go home, for his family to know the real Dev, to build a far different life – but it’s not going to be easy, not easy at all.

Rissa has learned the hard way to give her trust very carefully, especially after the fiasco with her former fiance.  Yet she’s built a life for herself in Braxton and she’s willing to fight for it.  She has a past with Dev, one that he seemingly doesn’t recall much about, and his reputation definitely proceeds him so she’s already primed to dislike, mistrust and try to ignore the attraction between them.  But the attraction is there on both sides, just getting these two to talk to each other, really talk is like pulling teeth from a rattler… not easy.

I enjoyed Her Secret Cowboy so much.  It answered so many questions, a strong gut feeling I’d had from the first story and built on the established couples and their lives now.  I liked Dev and Rissa very much, almost as much as they frustrated me at times.  If nothing else, reading Romances will teach a person about the importance of communication!  If you enjoy a really good, emotional love story then you’d love this story and the entire series.
