Cover Description:

Kline Grant has traveled the world for more than a decade to avoid going back home—and to make sure she doesn’t see Ben, her former fiancé. But her mother’s recent health troubles make it impossible for Kline to stay away. She plans to check on her mom, avoid Ben, and then get back on the road again. But the quirky town locals of Anderson Butte, a private little celebrity hideaway in the picturesque mountains of Colorado, have a very different plan.

Ben Anderson, the town’s handsome and beloved doctor, once broke Kline’s heart for reasons he’s never explained. When he figures out her mother’s scheme to trick her into coming home, he enlists the meddling townspeople’s help to make things right again with Kline. Then Ben plans to win her back. But as the former flames come face-to-face, old wounds ache, hurtful secrets emerge, and sparks fly with the heat between them that’s never cooled. Will the truth be enough to heal two broken hearts, or will it keep them apart forever?

Titles in this series include:  It Had To Be Him – It Had To Be love – It Had To Be Fate – It had To Be Them

It Had To Be Them is a heart breaking and heart warming second chance story for Ben and Kline.  They once had the deepest love, plans to marry and such an adventurous future to share – until it all fell apart.  Worse, never a reason that made any sense was given.  How do you just stop loving someone one day and more on… you don’t, at least not easily.

Kline has been running ever since the break up with Ben.  She wanders the world and had no intention of returning home any time soon.  Until she learned of her mother’s health issues.  Okay, she’d come back, avoid Ben, check on her mother and be outta town as quickly as possible.  Except it didn’t work out that way.

Ben has never stopped loving Kline.  He had responsibilities and back then he just couldn’t tie her down in one place, even if it would have been with him.  She deserved to be free to find the life they’d planned.  Once Ben learned of Kline’s mother luring her daughter home wit the “medical ailments” she was supposedly going through he was on board with the plan.  It had been ten long years, surely once she understood the reasons she’d forgive him and they’d have a second chance at their future.  He’d win her back… Kline had other ideas on that subject.

I do not know if It Had To Be Them is the last story in this series.  But if it is, this one was certainly a powerful sendoff.  We will run into many old friend from earlier stories, and the meddling with good intentions of most of the townsfolk never changes.  Kline and Ben have a lot to work through – lies, misdirection and holding back never work out well.  Their love was just as strong as ever, even if a bit bruised on Kline’s side.  Watching them rediscover that love was a delightful experience.

If you enjoy small town romances where everyone knows all about you then this story and series is one you’ll want to check out.  Funny, sad, insightful – It Had To Be Them runs through all the emotions and gives a very satisfying romance in the process.
