One wrong move, and she meets a guy with all the right ones…

Talia Dalton lives her life on cruise control. Despite her successful career as a professor, she prefers protecting her broken heart to taking chances. She’s calm, cool, collected, and steady. Until the morning she takes her eyes off that familiar road and almost runs over the sexiest man she’s ever seen. It may not be the best way to start the day, but it might be the type of shake-up she needs.

Male dancer Derek Grant has goals, and nothing is going to get in the way of achieving them. As a graduate student and the sole caretaker of his ailing father, he hasn’t much time for relationships. Then Talia crashes into his life. Sweet, pretty—and so buttoned-up that he can’t wait to help her cut loose.

For Derek, falling in love was a beautiful accident waiting to happen. And it might be exactly what Talia needs—if she’s willing to let go of the past and embrace every surprise Derek has to offer.

I have loved the Sugar Lake series and Love Like Ours just raised that emotion up about ten notches. Talia has her career and she’s not looking for anything more… ever.  She’s done the falling in love thing with disastrous results and she will not risk her heart ever again.  She has a comfort zone that she refuses to step outside of… right up until a near miss accident brings the most amazing man into that zone of hers and she has to rethink what she wants from life.  Derek also has his own zone, but one born of necessity.  His father is a victim of Alzheimer’s and Derek will do everything in his power to keep his dad happy, content and healthy for as long as he possibly can.  He knows that’s a losing battle, but for the foreseeable future that is his purpose in life.  His work, his classes, his life are contained and he’s accepted that… right up until a near miss puts him in the orbit of a buttoned up, serious, lovely woman who reaches him on a level that cries out for a life of his own, and one with her.

Love Like Ours is a love story, pure and simple.  You knew that I’m sure you’re saying — but I mean a love story that will touch your heart, linger in your mind, and just maybe let you understand that no matter what your other responsibilities are that it’s okay to have your own life with all the joys possible, as well.  I’m a caregiver myself, and a survivor of a love gone wrong as well… so I “got” both Talia and Derek on a level that touched deep for me.

I don’t want to give away details of Derek and Talia’s romance, that’s something you should be allowed to experience firsthand.  What I found in Love Like Ours was a sense of family and friends who love and support each other, finally dealing with a past hurt that is closing off Talia to any future she might have with Derek and accepting that life moves on and it’s not a horrible thing to want a special, unique love in your own life while still caring for someone who was there for you and now needs you to be there for them.  It’s a realistic, believable story that many will see bits of their own lives mirrored from the pages.  I loved stepping back into the Sugar Lake world once again for an amazing romance and would highly recommend Love Like Ours to any Romance reader who simply enjoys falling in love all over again.
