When an avalanche crushes her world, Olympic hopeful Starr Taylor loses her job, her boyfriend, and worst of all, her confidence. She’s working on getting her life back together and moving forward, and it certainly won’t be with Spencer Kensington, the far-too-attractive playboy lawyer she’s forced to play nice with at their friends’ wedding. Unfortunately, Spencer’s trip to Reno gets extended unexpectedly, and Starr suddenly finds herself way too close for comfort with the man she’s quickly realizing is more than he appears.
Spencer is a tough, no-nonsense New York businessman with a no-commitment rule in the bedroom. But a few days of living with Starr, feeding goats and helping her save troubled teens, has him feeling something he can’t identify. In fact, the more Spencer gets to know the surprisingly vulnerable and tempting woman, the duller his superficial life in the city starts to seem. But everything he’s worked for is waiting for him, and as Spencer’s flight back home grows closer, he’s left wondering if the life he has is really the life he wants.

I was easily drawn into NO HEARTBREAKER REQUIRED and completely enjoyed Starr and Spencer’s journey to an eventual happy ending. At one time Starr was an Olympic hopeful skier, she had the talent and was on the fast track to success when an avalanche happened on the mountain. While not physically injured her confidence floundered as she was terrified of returning to the mountains again to ski. The same day her boyfriend basically dumped her, and the company she’s sponsored by is slowly pulling away since she isn’t really competing in her sport much due to her panic attacks at even thinking of going back up there. Starr’s had a lot happen to her in a short time, yet she also knows she’ll come out the other side one day, just not today. In the meantime, she’s back home in her small town, working with teens and trying to put her life back together again. Right now she has a wedding to get through as her soon-to-be sister-in-law’s maid of honor. She’s happy for her brother and his new family but feels the lack of someone special in her own life.
Spencer is in town for his best friend’s wedding and to act as Best Man. He’s not really thrilled to be here as he feels the need to be back in New York dealing with a client there. As a lawyer, Spencer shines, as a man, well, he’s more the woman of the night kind of player who never intends to be shackled to one woman the rest of his life. His disbelief in love and happy forever with one person is obvious to all, but he’ll suck it up for Grace and give her his best. The last thing he expected was to be attracted to a woman who obviously wants nothing to do with him, have his wallet stolen and end up fighting for the kid who did it, being charmed by Grace’s new family and new town or having second thoughts about what he really wants out of life. His feelings for Starr are too strong to ignore, now he has choices to make – and a woman to convince that anyone, even him, can change.
I loved running into old friends from the first story in this series, NO COWBOY REQUIRED and seeing them play such an important part in this one. While I would recommend reading this as a series from start to finish if you cannot then there is enough information given in dialogue and narrative to not be the least bit lost. I enjoyed watching the changes in Starr and in Spencer. There are several threads running through their romance that there is always something happening at that moment. It didn’t feel like too much, yet it did keep me on my toes throughout. Theirs is more of a slow burn romance with a fade to black scenes, but enough chemistry to use your imagination. I had fun with NO HEARTBREAKER REQUIRED and would not hesitate to recommend it to any Romance reader.
