When these friends become lovers, they might just turn into bitter enemies
Ebon Brody and Sophie Caplan have been close friends – and closer rivals – for as long as they can remember. One night they become even more and shake hands on a no-strings agreement. They’ve always been able to keep their hands off each other’s stories – surely, they can keep their hands on each other at the same time.
But when they both begin to circle the same scoop – a human trafficking scandal that could bring enormous accolades for either of their competing papers – they discover it’s harder to avoid those strings than they thought.
Sophie was secretly furious when Ebon didn’t attempt to poach her to his newspaper, the Phoenix, and she resolved to win at all costs. Now she has to choose between the man she’s always wanted and the career she loves more than anything. Ebon wants to prove himself to his older brothers and to the woman he’s always admired, even if it means snatching a story out from under her feet.
Title: Off the Record
Series: London Phoenix
Author: Rebecca Crowley
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Published: January 16, 2020
Publisher: Tule Publishing
My Rating: 4 stars
Off the Record brings the London Phoenix series to a close with a romance that could be friends or enemies to lovers feel to it since Ebon and Sophie are friends yet have crossed that line to lovers. Yet, if the current news story they’re competing for doesn’t tear them apart, they could be the forever partner they both deserve.
Their romance has a bit more bite to it as the story they are after could be seen in any country’s news headlines today or tomorrow. That gives Ebon’s and Sophie’s reactions a more realistic feel beyond the push and pull of their romantic situation. I liked them both, even understood their reasoning throughout their story. I didn’t always agree with their actions, but the affection between them has always held them somewhat in check when it comes to each other’s stories – until it couldn’t any longer. The deeper details you’ll need to discover for yourself by picking up Off the Record.
We’ll get the chance to wrap up this series with appearances of the previous couples and the feeling that we’re sending them off to a happy future. I enjoyed myself and I’ll be keeping an eye out for what Rebecca Crowley brings us next.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Tule Publishing. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
