Sometimes life just takes the biscuit …
Abby Spencer knows she can come across as an airhead – she talks too much and is a bit of a klutz – but there’s more to her than that. Though she sacrificed her career to help raise her sisters, a job interview at biscuit company Crumbs could finally be her chance to shine. That’s until she hurries in late wearing a shirt covered in rusk crumbs, courtesy of her baby nephew, and trips over her handbag.
Managing director Douglas Faulkner isn’t sure what to make of Abby Spencer with her Bambi eyes, tousled hair and ability to say more in the half-hour interview than he manages in a day. All he knows is she’s a breath of fresh air and could bring a new lease of life to the stale corporate world of Crumbs. To his life too, if he’d let her.
But Doug’s harboring a secret. He’s not the man she thinks he is.

Oh Crumbs is a delightful tale of family, love, taking chances, making choices with a whole lot of laughter tossed in for very good measure. Abby will win your heart right away. She’s the eldest of the sisters, and it’s Abby who will take on the mothering role when their mother dies. Suddenly this teen has a grieving father, sisters in confusion and morning as well as her own dreams now filled with sadness to cope with. Yet, she doesn’t complain she simply gets on about life and cares for her family putting herself a far distant last in need. As time passes and her sisters grow up Abby can finally reach out for her own dreams… she just didn’t expect to be more than her usual klutzy, self during the interview, and still get the job in spite of herself.
I was a little slower to warm up to Doug. Oh, he’s handsome and a bit of a man of mystery with his secret looming over him. The contrast between their families couldn’t be further apart. Doug is getting through the day, his passion certainly isn’t a biscuit company yet he will toe the family line… for now. Abby is not only a lovely young lady that Doug is attracted to, but she’s also a breeze of fresh, clean air in the life he’s living. He certainly didn’t expect to fall for his PA, but tell that to the emotional heart. Now about those secrets…
Oh Crumbs has everything that I’ve come to expect in a Kathryn Freeman story. Lots of heart, a few complications, laugh out loud moments, a vile villain to contend with and a couple that despite their differences do work well together. The road to a happy ending isn’t smooth by any means for Doug and Abby – but it is well worth the journey to get there in the end. If you love a humorous love story, one that will grab not only your heart but your emotions as well, then this is a story that you’ll want to pick up… soon. I had fun with Oh Crumbs, and that is why I read romance.
