Conflict of Interest is a look at lawyers in love in the high stakes world of Manhattan’s prestigious legal firms.

Avery Peters is excited to start her summer associates job at a boutique law firm. On her first day, she finds out her office has been swallowed up by law giant Coldwater, Brock, & Henry.

She is apprehensive at first, but everything seems to be going well. Her high spirits quickly crumble when she bumps into her high school ex — Trent Cannon, who is now a high-powered partner at Coldwater.

Avery doesn’t think she can handle the internship working alongside her former love. Worse, the pain of remembering a buried secret every time she sees Trent is too much to bear.

She knows she must find a way to get a handle on her emotions for the rest of the summer. But despite her determination not to get involved with him, there is an undeniable attraction.

Is it nostalgia or is it something more? Will it matter when Avery discovers the truth about Trent?

Read on for my thoughts on Conflict of Interest.  No true spoilers, promise.

Trent and Avery grew up in the same home town.  In fact, Trent was her brother Chris’s best friend for most of their lives.  So they had a history – and one of them had a secret.

When Avery comes to work at the law firm where Trent is a top lawyer, their paths cross once again.  Trent has always had feelings for Avery and they have not dimmed a bit over the years.  Avery is trying to avoid being near Trent, but despite the size of the large law firm, they keep running into each other.  Trent is still very attracted to Avery, and she to him – but she is fighting it as hard as she can.  Avery cannot let go of the past, and Trent cannot tell her his side of the story.  An impasse that seems impossible to go beyond.

There is eventually a way to let Trent’s secret come out and our couple to enjoy each other.  Until another conflict, one that could have even worse consequences for them both.  But that is for you to read about – I’m not going to tell you the entire story.  You need to pick up this one and read their story for yourself.

The characters were very well written, I enjoyed Avery and Trent’s story very much.  I also enjoyed the secondary characters and hope to see them in their own story one day.

Conflict of interest was a very good novel with a story that kept me turning Kindle pages rather quickly.  I’d give it a 4 outta 5 on my rating scale.  If you enjoy a well written story with realistic characters then you need to get this one.

My rating:  4 outta 5 = a really, excellent novel that was great just didn’t go beyond.

*I received an e-ARC of Conflict of Interest from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
