Synopsis:

It happens whenever wolf shifter Roni Axton is near Marcus Fuller: a crackle of sexual awareness that’s intoxicating…and deeply annoying. Marcus is a pack enforcer who oozes power, but Roni is lethal in her own right—nothing like the flirty females who flock around him. Even still, his possessive gaze makes one thing clear. Marcus has singled her out for seduction, and he wants to make her sit up and beg.

No matter how aloof and unfazed Roni acts, Marcus can tell she wants him. When a brutal attack by a jackal pack forces them to work together, it’s the perfect opportunity for Marcus to chip away at her defenses—until he falls into his own trap, completely unprepared for the intensity of their connection. Roni is the only one who’s ever seen past his shifter charm and discovered the man hiding beneath it. And for Marcus, claiming Roni once will mean needing her forever.

Read on for my thoughts on Dark Instincts.  No true spoilers, promise.

When I got the NetGally e-ARC for this novel, I immediately went to Amazon and downloaded the first novels in this series.  Why?  Because I love Paranormal, easy answer.  The entire Phoenix Pack series will be reviewed on my paranormal blog,  Haunted Bookshelf.  For now, let’s look at Dark Instincts.

Roni and Marcus have such an “I don’t want to be attracted to you, but damn I’m about to pull you under me.” kind of attraction.  Yet, Roni is not about to admit that, especially to Marcus – with his constantly changing girl of the moment attitude.  Besides, Roni doesn’t need a man to protect her, she can kick butt just as well if not better than that sexy man ever could.  But, damn he could get under a girl’s skin.

Marcus knows that Roni can take care of herself – he just want to take care of her as well, in his own special way.  Not that Roni wants anything to do with him.  He’s not giving up, especially when he realizes that this isn’t just a sexual thing for Roni – more like a that’s my mate, dammit, thing.

Both Roni and Marcus have parts of themselves that they keep hidden from the pack.  Not every thought or action is on display for the world, and the others much closer to pick apart.  Yet, each senses something more beneath the surface, and that intrigues them.

When the Jackal pack stages a vicious attack, Marcus and Roni will be forced to work together to protect and defend their packs.  If that allows Marcus to get a bit closer and push a bit more, so be it.

I really enjoyed Roni and Marcus.  They are feisty, strong, opinionated and so hot together.  But their story is intense and packed with danger.  It was an extremely enjoyable addition to the series.

If you haven’t started this series, there is no problem with reading this one first.  For me, I don’t “have” to start at the beginning but it does make more sense when many characters from earlier books show up…or do a drive-by appearance.  But totally not necessary.  Still it’s entirely possible that once you read Dark Instincts you will want to go back and read them all.

This one is recommended for anyone who loves Paranormal, Shifters, and intense, hot, no holds barred sexy couples.  It’s an interesting story and one that anyone who loves to see two people who obviously belong together get their own version of happily ever after.  Go on, pick it up – you’ll enjoy this series.

*I received an e-ARC of Dark Instincts from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
