John Fitzhugh Barrett is surprised to discover that instead of being a bastard, he’s the legitimate heir to the Somerset marquessate. Once word gets out that he must continue the Somerset line, eligible bachelorettes from across the country descend upon Somerfield Park, hoping to snatch John up before it’s too late. But John has no interest in a woman who’s only after his title.

Rebecca Kearsey, the daughter of a threadbare viscount, is the only one who understands. However, as her desire for John begins to build, she becomes painfully aware that she isn’t considered grand enough by Polite Society to be a future marchioness. Intrigued by the idea of challenging society’s rigid values, John’s interest in Rebecca grows. But can she show him that love is more than just childish rebellion?

Read on for my thoughts on Never Resist A Rake.  No true spoilers, promise.

From the opening scene of Never Resist A Rake you will know that you are in for an amazing reading journey.

Imagine living your entire life believing you were the unwanted child, callously tossed aside to live in obscurity by your titled father.  Now imagine the shock of discovering you are in fact the legitimate heir and all of the ton (and the mothers of marriageable young misses) is seeing you in a far different light.  Even though John has been declared the heir, there are many in society who are unwilling to see him for the honorable man he is.  The only members of his class who are accepting him for who he is are a group of men who, unfortunately, are seen as rogues and rakes.

Rebecca finds herself rescued from ruin by the most unlikely man.  As the daughter of a practically penniless viscount, Rebecca knows that she cannot expect much from the male members of the ton… right up to the moment she is rescued by its most recent and most surprising new addition to those ranks.

Marrying for the sake of tradition does not appeal to John.  To be paraded in front of so called ladies who have little interest in him beyond his title is not part of John’s plan.  Now Rebecca could play a very large part in his plans.  She sees him, really sees him for the man behind the title.  She’s attractive, intelligent, and she also knows what it’s like to be ignored by their society.  She would be the perfect match.

I adored John and Rebecca’s story.  These two were perfect for each other.  To find two people who are attracted to each other, do not hide behind false declarations or trumped up drama – when they fall for each other it’s right there without any silliness, it was…  1. usually unheard of 2. refreshing change of pace 3. made this story stand out from the rest.   Never Resist A Rake is an excellent addition to the Somerfield Park series.

I would definitely recommend this novel for people who love Historical, Regency Romance or simply a fun, engaging love story.  Give this one a chance to charm you – go pick it up.

*I received an e-ARC of Never Resist A Rake from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
