Ginger knows that practical choices guarantee a stable life, which is why she chose a career as an office manager. Her job provides a steady paycheck, but it also has her snoozing at her desk. She wishes she’d pursued her passion for interior decorating rather than business.
She’s also trying to forget Greg Shaffer—the gorgeous emergency room doctor she met at a dance club last month. Her dad was an emergency room doctor and the stress of the job turned him into a raging alcoholic, which didn’t exactly create happy childhood memories.
Ginger believes donating her decorating services to her friend’s charity auction is the perfect fix for both her problems. She’ll get a break from the daily grind, get her creative juices flowing, and stay so busy she’ll finally forget about Greg.
But then Greg ends up buying the condo right above her. Even worse, he deliberately wins the bid on her auction item. Greg seems determined to prove to Ginger that practicality has nothing on passion. And as Ginger brings beauty into Greg’s world, how can she possibly resist the beauty he brings to hers?
Read on for my thoughts on Up to Date. No true spoilers, promise.
Oh, if only we would listen to what our hearts and, yeah, our guts tell us we might not make some of the unfortunate choices we do.
If Ginger had listened to her heart she would now be an interior designer, creating beautiful environments for clients to live their lives or enjoy their workplace in beautiful surroundings. Instead she went with a business career as an office manager which is boring her to tears – leaving lots of time for daydreaming about changing around the furniture.
Greg is the guy that “could have been” – but as an emergency room doctor, his job hit all of Ginger’s panic buttons. Just because her father had used his time in the ER as an excuse to drink away the misery he came into contact with every day, Ginger is convinced that Greg is a bad bet for her romantic future.
By donating her decorating talents to a friend’s charity event as a prize, Ginger sees one way to let her creative talent out – if only for a short time. What she didn’t expect was for Greg to win that auction and put her in his sights once again. Second chances? Or a disaster waiting to happen?
Up to Date is a short read that I completely enjoyed. One of the pluses of this novella was visiting with other characters from this series. I love to catch up with people whose stories I know or expect to know more about soon. I haven’t read the entire series (yet) but I never felt as though I couldn’t follow the story. I wouldn’t call it a stand alone, but I was comfortable with the back stories I got through reading this one.
This novel gets a solid 4 outta 5 rating from me. I enjoyed it and would recommend it for anyone who simply loves a good, well, love story.
My rating scale: 4 outta 5 = a really, excellent novel that was great just didn’t go beyond.
*I received an e-ARC of Up to Date from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
