SNOWED IN WITH THE SINGLE DAD takes us back to the unique small town of Second Chance, Idaho for another romance and more developments on the fate of this unusual town. I will always suggest starting a series from the beginning. You get nuances, inside jokes, references and a better overall feel for the people. With The Mountian Monroes series that very first story sets up what this entire series is about – so, if you can only go back to just one previous story for whatever reason then I’d strongly suggest picking up either the prequel, THE SECRETS TO MY SUCCESS or the first story, KISSED BY THE COUNTRY DOC. You do what works for you. I simply believe you’ll have an overall better reading experience if you’ve got the background – but that’s my opinion.
Laurel and Mitch were like combining oil and water for a good part of their story. There was certainly an attraction between them, one that Mitch fought tooth and nail against acknowledging. I understood his reasons, yet Laurel is herself not someone from his past and should be judged on her own personality and actions. My heart ached for Laurel. She’s always been the invisible twin and she’s bought into the pile of garbage that her mother has tossed at her for most of her life. So what if her identical twin Ashley is a movie star, that doesn’t negate what Laurel is in her own right. But, we love who we love and believe the lies that benefit others and never ourselves because of that love. Laurel’s life is changing far beyond the fate of this town and figuring out what she’s going to do now is an additional issue to deal with along with the constant bantering and arguing with one particular innkeeper.
We’ll get to know some of the townsfolk a bit better, fall in love with Gabby, Mitch’s daughter who is heading into those teen years that every father dreads and always fights against, and begin to understand some of the plans being put in place for Second Chance’s future. I enjoyed myself so much with SNOWED IN WITH THE SINGLE DAD. Laurel and Mitch are a believable couple trying to put their past behind them in order to move forward and discovering that isn’t always as easy as it sounds. If you love a good romance with interesting people, a few quirky townsfolk, an unusual plot and believable couples then you’ll want to get started on this series or pick up SNOWED IN WITH THE SINGLE DAD.
