Ally Marshall isn’t just a wolf shifter — she’s a Seer.
But a girl doesn’t exactly need special powers to know that Derren Hudson despises her entire kind. Disdain practically rolls off the Beta of the Mercury Pack . . . disdain mixed with a healthy dose of desire. And no matter how much the ruggedly handsome male appeals to her, this is one call of the wild she’s determined to ignore.
After one betrayal too many, Derren doesn’t have much use for Seers — except for Ally.
Forced into acting as her protector, he finds himself intensely and passionately drawn to the woman who incites his primal instinct to claim.
And when enemies target the pack, Ally’s gift may be just what the Mercury Pack needs.
Can he put his distrust aside, or will he force himself to turn his back on the one woman who makes his inner beast howl?
Read on for my thoughts on Spiral of Need. No true spoilers, promise.
When you’ve done time for a crime you didn’t commit. When a Seer came close to destroying you, it’s a bit difficult to trust any Seer ever again. When you finally find your mate and she’s a Seer as well as a Shifter – you are lost.
Ally knows that many within the Packs will never trust a Seer, trust her, for in their opinion absolute power corrupts absolutely… or pretty much, paint them all with the same tainted brush. She’s never belonged. One of two survivors of a destroyed pack, Ally has moved from pack to pack trying to find her place. She never expected to find her mate – and she never, ever imagined he would hate her on sight, even when desire would overrule the heart. She may be strong, even a badass shifter – but any woman will die a little inside knowing that her mate despises her very existence.
Doing a favor for a friend has brought Derren face to face with his mate – a damned Seer no less. He’s promised to protect her, he may lust after her but he will never, ever trust her. Fates be damned.
Spiral of Need is an intense, sensuous story. (If strong sexual scenes, with little to no holds barred offends you, then you might not enjoy this one because the sex is down and dirty, frequent and descriptive – my kind of story, but maybe not yours.. just be aware)
The Mercury Pack is a spinoff of Ms Wright’s The Phoenix Pack series. In my opinion, it’s not absolutely necessary to have read The Phoenix Pack series to enjoy or get started on this newer series — but it does help with crossover characters who make appearances in each series and for an overall feel of the history of both packs. (and right now, if you haven’t read the first series it is offered on Kindle Unlimited, just not sure for how long – but you “could” catch up easily)
Ally and Derren’s romance is rocky, sexy, full of tension and mistrust. They have a lot to overcome. When Allly tries to warn the pack of danger, it’s up to Derren to finally decide if he will trust the lives of so many people to a Seer he’s programed now to not trust.
I loved Spiral of Need very much and I’m on pins and needles waiting for the next story. If you love Shifters, if a great, sexy story is right up your alley, if you are addicted to series then this is a story you will enjoy. I highly recommend it and hope you’ll take a chance on a new pack and come along for the adventure.
*I received an e-ARC of Spiral of Need from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
Available in paperback, audio and for the Kindle
