Every woman goes through changes in their forties.
Just not… these changes.
Robin Brannon was a normal wife, mom, and antique shop owner until a brush with death turned her day-to-day life upside down. Now she and her two best friends are seeing things that belong in a fantasy novel. Ghosts. Visions. Omens of doom. Nothing that belongs in the peaceful mountain town they call home.
Added to that, Robin’s marriage is on the rocks, her grandmother’s health is failing, her mother is driving away the customers at her shop, her teenage daughter refuses to get her drivers’ license, and her left knee aches every darn morning.
Robin doesn’t have the time, energy, or knees to unearth the secrets buried at the bottom of Glimmer Lake, but fate doesn’t seem to care. Some secrets are just dying to be exposed.

Suddenly Psychic begins a not only intriguing series but a celebration of friendship in all its beauty and weirdness – we all know the truth of that. *smiles* Robin, Val, and Monica are in their 40s, they’ve experienced just about every aspect of life from love, marriage, divorce, widowhood, children, aging parents, and marriages that are now just “there” not the love-fests they once were. In other words, these ladies could be your neighbors, your co-workers or your own set of best friends. Average. Until something extraordinary happens during an accident and a near-death experience for them all. Life is about to change drastically for these ladies, and in some ways, for those that know and love them as well.
There is little true advance world-building in Suddenly Psychic as we dive right into the lives of Robin, Val, Monica, and their families. Ah, that wasn’t actually meant as a pun but I guess it would fit. The world-building develops as we read, as events both normal and paranormal occur and we meet the characters who will fill up this world in the first book of the Glimmer Lake series. There is most definitely a several decades-old mystery to be solved, one that hits very close to home for Robin. Piecing together those clues and events along with the women who suddenly have different “other” abilities is a fascinating journey – one I won’t spoil for you by going into details. I can easily say that I laughed a lot, easily understood most of what life has been tossing at these friends lately, got caught up in an old romance, and came to despise one very nasty piece of work as well. The story itself flows naturally, the characters came alive on the page for me, and I was captured by this story from beginning to the final page.
This is a story of friendship as much as it is about the paranormal happenings around Glimmer Lake. I had such a good time in this world, and I’ll definitely be watching for the next story in this series. If you love a good, strong story, friendships that feel like family, a bit of a mystery, and a slice of everyday life then Suddenly Psychic is a book you’ll want to pick up right now. I believe you’ll enjoy yourself immensely – I know I certainly did.
