Cover Description:

Lake Serene resort manager, Shaw Chamberlin – having recently left a turbulent career in a big, bustling city – is determined to throw his efforts into overseeing renovating the family’s resort. Parts of his past still haunt him, but he’s resolved to try to move forward.

The enigmatic woman Shaw hired to run his snowmobile operation, Haley Walters, is looking to start over. She’s competent and opinionated, and seems to be the only person able to draw Shaw out of his own self-scrutiny; she’s the only person who makes him feel alive.

When a new remote project has Shaw and Haley working together in close quarters, they allow themselves to explore feelings they’ve long kept buried. Do these two lonely hearts dare to bare their souls to each other, or are their pasts too near the surface to let them?

Read on for my thoughts on Taming His Montana Heart.  No true spoilers, promise.

Taming His Montana Heart is a thoughtful, slowly developing romance… or maybe the word I’m looking for is cautious.  Through the course of their story Shaw and Haley will go through the boss and the employee relationship, them move on to a light friendship with an awareness of each other.  Eventually their attraction for each other will become too strong to overlook any longer.  And then they have to make a choice – to go any further will involve being painfully open to the other about their pasts… and that’s not going to be easy.

Both Haley and Shaw carry a heavy emotional burden from an event in the past.  We get hints of what has happened to them, but that is more of the reader filling in the left unsaid things between them.  Eventually we will get their entire story and it is as painful, if not more so than anything we could have imagined.  They are both living in constant emotional pain that rarely ceases for long.  Healing is what they both need the most but until they can share their burdens that’s not likely to happen.  This story is their shared journey of getting to the place where they can trust enough, forgive themselves enough to let someone special in to their reality.  Their sadness is countered with lighthearted moments, their tentative steps toward each other are almost a mirror.  They want what the attraction is drawing them to, but they are afraid that sharing what made them as they are today will be too much and they’ll lose this chance of being together.

Taming His Montana Heart is the story of two broken souls who discover love can heal most anything, if you give it a chance.  I enjoyed my time with Shaw and Haley.  This is not a light romance, it does go deeper at a slower pace that makes perfect sense for people who carry the burdens that they do.  The wolf sighting is a special, unique touch.  He almost becomes their spirit wolf here in the magical Lake Serene area.  And I’ll admit to watching out for signs of him throughout the story.
