Who turned up the heat?

Classically-trained chef Delilah Corbyn walked away from the cutthroat celebrity kitchen world to return to her hometown of Last Stand, Texas. Delilah’s excited to open her own restaurant where she can finally make decisions without being scrutinized by the media. She thinks she’s living her dream until the new “it” chef saunters into town with a wink and a challenge. Delilah can handle the heat in the kitchen, but he stirs up passions she’d long ago buried.

Jock Rossi has come a long way in the culinary world for someone who isn’t formally trained. Now he’s a rising chef with fame and money finally within his grasp. Determined to attract investors, he launches his latest restaurant in Last Stand. But when he meets his local competition, Jock’s plans skew off course. Delilah’s not only as talented as she is beautiful, but she’s also impossible to fool. Or forget.

Can Jock win her heart with his secret recipe or are they only destined to battle it out in the kitchen?

Texan for the Taking is the third and final story in the Corbyn Sisters of Last Stand.  While I’m always a bit sad to see a series end, Delilah and Jock’s story was the perfect way to bring these all amazing stories and their characters to a finale.  Plus we have a bit of a mystery concerning Delilah’s past and the boss who played dirty with her emotions and her recipes.

I’m an okay cook in my own kitchen, but I’ll admit to some envy for people who have the talent to create masterpieces of food simply from their own imaginations.  And in some ways, this is what Delilah and Jock can do, in different styles and ways.  While Delilah was classically trained, Jock was taught by his family and his own creations of combining the diverse natures of his family.

Both are good at what they do.  One has had enough of the bright lights and only wants to be content in her hometown, queen of her own kitchen with no one trying to steal anything from her.  The other is on the rise in the television world of cooking shows and is trying out his ideas for his restaurant here where it wouldn’t be the ending of his career if he didn’t manage to create what he imagined.  Neither expected that a man from Delilah’s past would figure into both of their professional and personal lives.

As always with this author, we get a smooth well-written story alive with emotions, a bit of danger, some competition, and a couple who fit together so well.  I liked both Jock and Delilah separately and together.  Watching them work through the issues faced, fall in love, and make it all work for them was an emotional, fun journey.  I had a blast with Texan for the Taking and cannot wait to see what is heading our way next.
