Kit Jernigan despairs of ever fitting in with her new tight-knit K9 unit. They’ve been through too much to open their arms to a stranger―and as mysterious fires begin raging across Monroe, she can’t convince them to trust her long enough to catch the woman she knows is responsible.
Wesley March, local fire spotter, knows Kit is right, and he’s willing to help her prove it. But the more time they spend together, the closer they get…and the more danger they’re in. A member of the K9 unit’s inner circle is determined to get revenge―no matter who gets burned in the process.
This time, it’s personal.

My Rating: 4.5 stars
(sigh) I have loved this series so much, and Through the Fire was just the sweet enticing icing on the cake for me. And although I know you get tired of hearing me say it… but this series really does need to be read in order because of the overarching thread and each story building somewhat on the one just past.
Kit and her bloodhound, Justice, are a perfect team. New to the town and the job, Kit isn’t fitting in as well as she’d hoped with the other members of the team. She’s just left a job where she had the difficult task of turning in a corrupt partner… she doesn’t want to do that again, but something is off in the small town of Monroe and no one is talking to her. Sometimes it takes an outsider, someone who doesn’t know all the tiny details about a situation, people or town to be able to see clearly. Soon after Kit’s arrival there is a fire, a dead body… and her bloodhound has tracked clues right to a door that no one wants to believe. Kit’s going to need help on this one, and she finds it in the most unlikely form of a loner who doesn’t read personal clues very well but certainly feels the spark between them very clearly.
Through the Fire is intense as it ties up the threads expertly woven throughout this series. There will be twists. Certainly surprises are in store for the reader along the way. This is why I really believe this series needs to be read in order. Wes is charming, sexy and sees more than he lets on. Socially awkward perhaps yet he trusts Kit and the feelings between them. Justice is adorable, a hero in his own right and I believe you’ll fall in love with this special pup. We’ll run into familiar faces, couples throughout this story. I don’t know for certain if this is the last… it feels like it, but I’ve learned to never say done for there are always possibilities. There is a lot going on in Through the Fire that I simply cannot comment on because to do so would give away spoilers… but the tensions, the emotions felt so very real and I completely enjoyed being drawn into this world once again. If you love Romantic Suspense with great characters, a compelling addictive story line then you’ll want to be reading the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. I’d highly recommend all of the stories without hesitation.
I loved this one — but note to the publisher, that should have been Kit and Justice on the cover, it really should have been.
