Cover Description:

Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she’s not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.

Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he’s landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He’s all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he’s one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks.

Read on for my thoughts on Wicked Ride.  No true spoilers, promise.

Wicked Ride grabbed me from the first page and didn’t let go until the end – and maybe beyond for now I’m in the second story of this series.  Yeah, “the end” on one and move to the next immediately.  Like I said, it grabbed me, big time.  I’ve not had the pleasure of reading Dark Protectors yet (this is a spin off of that first series) but the first story is loaded on the Kindle and I’ll tackle that series as soon as I’ve finished up  Wicked Edge later today.

The mixing of a paranormal world with the darkness of a motorcycle club gave this story an additional edginess.  As you will discover, there are two motorcycle clubs in this story – one definitely on the bad guys side and the other most definitely a paranormal good guys MC.

There is a new drug on the streets of Seattle.  Apollo will literally burn up a human alive, while giving the feeling of being a god before the inferno hits.  There are two factions that want this drug off of the streets – the Seattle police and the Enforcers of the Coven Nine, the ruling body of the paranormal world of witches, vampires, demons and shifters.  While the drug is deadly to humans, its true purpose is more insidious to the witches of Seattle and then the world for this drug is intended to wipe out witches – Seattle is merely a testing ground before the main assault.

Kellach is an Enforcer for the Coven Nine.  It is his mission to infiltrate a badass motorcycle club suspected of dealing in Apollo and get this drug off of the street while learning who is behind its manufacture and intention toward the paranormal world.  Alexandra is a Seattle cop, intent on discovering what this new drug is, stopping distribution and taking down the bad guys involved.  Unfortunately, the good guys and the bad guys don’t always wear identifying signs – and she picked one of the baddest of the good guys to take on over this drug.  Kellach’s first encounter with Alexandra isn’t exactly what he expected, but his attraction to this feisty, badass cop is off the charts.

Lex has no idea of the world of witches, vampires, demons and shifters that co-exists with hers every single day.  But she’s about to get a fast introduction that will change everything for her.  Kell’s intention is to protect this human whether she wants it or not.  The strong attraction he feels toward Alexandra is surprising since she doesn’t appear to be an enhanced human (one with some paranormal gifts), but she’s not giving up or giving in so that means neither is Kellach.

As readers, we see what the other characters don’t – and Alexandra screwed up hugely on several occasions simply because she’s stubborn, believes she’s right and can’t completely trust Kellach even though there is a bond between them.  So, yes there were a few times I wanted to shake some sense into Alexandra.  Not that Kellach was any less stubborn and alpha male to be fair.

I don’t think I can adequately express how much I enjoyed Wicked Ride and look forward to the rest of this series.  It is a dark, gritty world with bursts of light.  A fascinating collection of paranormal characters, all so clearly defined that I feel like I know these people after just one story.  The attraction between Alexandra and Kellach is smokin hot (no pun intended) and when they come together the world does indeed tilt.  The stubbornness, the determination and the sense of protection that the characters evoke is very strong and believable.  They both have faults, which makes them so much more realistic within this world.  And it’s not all dark – there are definitely some chuckle worthy moments… Kellach’s first purchase of condoms in three centuries of life comes to mind for one.  I simply really enjoyed this story and when that feeling hits I know that I’m in a series for the long haul.
