She’s the Christmas light in a world that seems so dark…

When Patrol Officer Kelly Shannon answers a suspected DUI call that results in the suspect’s death, she has to deliver the grim news to his young family, including his brother—her friend and crush, Mick. Kelly convinces herself that she’s only making amends when Mick begs for help looking out for his niece and nephew as his sister-in-law grieves and neglects her young children. But as Christmas approaches, Kelly admits the truth. She’s falling in love.

Journalist Mick Mizzoni spent his life trying to keep his younger brother out of trouble. When he gains temporary guardianship over his niece and nephew, he crosses the professional line he drew years ago and turns to Kelly Shannon for help. As she embraces him and his new family, she gives him hope that this Christmas could be different.

With their happiness hanging by a thread, Kelly hopes for a Christmas miracle, but Mick, who’s not as jaded as he thought, wants so much more.

My Rating:  4.5 stars

There are times when a story will simply break my heart.  A Convenient Christmas Proposal is one of those times.  In the second story in The Shannon Sisters series, Kelly and Mick will face a difficult, emotional situation from different points of view but at the core, their hearts are always with two little innocent children who need the love and guidance of two caring adults to put them first in all things.

Although Kelly was not at fault in any sense of the word for the fatal DUI accident that took the life of Mick’s brother and left behind a destroyed woman and two sweet children, she still carries some guilt for not being able to, in her mind, do enough to prevent what happened.  She’s a firm believer in trusting the system to do right, unfortunately, Mick doesn’t and has the personal experience to back that impression up.

A Convenient Christmas Proposal combines the aftermath of grief with the hope held tight for a better future.  I wish I could have had more empathy for Mick’s sister-in-law but her problems didn’t just begin with her husband’s death, they’d been there all along perhaps not so ‘in your face’, but there.  Amanda and Billy were so sweet, and so in need of their uncle’s care right now for their mother was actually putting them in danger.  When Mick convinces Kelly to help him with the children everything will begin to change – but will it be enough for a happy ending for everyone?

An emotional romance, A Convenient Christmas Proposal is a slow burn for Mick and Kelly and brings several people together at just the right moment in their lives.  There were tears, but there was also laughter, healing, acceptance, and a chance at love to last a lifetime.  I was easily caught up in this story and loved every moment spent with these characters… even the sad ones.
