Echoes of Fire by Suzanne Wright

They may not be made for each other, but animal instincts are impossible to ignore.

Madisyn Drake is a rare breed of cat shifter…a loner, unpredictably wild, and emotionally distant. A recent betrayal has left her ready to sharpen her claws on the next man she sees…until a prowling wolf with steel-gray eyes and a brooding dark edge challenges her distrust. No matter how fully he satisfies her touch-hunger, Madisyn’s not ready to open up again, even if it is oh so gratifying.

Bracken Slater has earned his reputation as an indomitable predator. Once broken by grief and guilt, Brack is feeling alive again, thanks to the heady scent of this independent feline. Convincing her that they’re meant for each other is going to take more than branding Madisyn’s beautiful neck. She’s not interested in joining an unfamiliar pack, much less answering to an alpha. But when threats from both their pasts take shape, their unexpected destiny may be the only thing that can save them.

Title:  Echoes of Fire

My Rating:  4.5 stars

Echoes of Fire has to be my favorite Suzanne Wright novel… to date.  Her spin on the shifter world, the introduction of a shifter animal I’ve not seen anywhere before and the ease with which I’m transported back into her worlds every single time I pick up a new book are just a few of the reasons why I look forward to the continuing adventures of The Phoenix Pack and The Mercury Pack series.  And, yes, I mention both packs for we will be seeing some old friends along the way, and maybe stirring up some memories of the past as well.

Alright, folks, can we all say badass.  Madisyn and her animal are completely kick but, takes names, won’t break a sweat or a claw badass.  She’s a loner, has no filter whatsoever and is a perfect match for Bracken.  We’ve met Brack before, yet this Bracken is edgier, darker and… more in control, yet out of control in the same moment.  I know that doesn’t make sense, but it is a feeling that flows off of him in this story.  And Madisyn is the only one who can really reach him now.  She “gets” him but she’s not about to let him take over either.  Each are strong, determined and just fit together right – and they should, they are after all mates.

I’m not about to give spoilers away… so Echoes of Fire is an intense, action packed story that will grab your attention and not let go til the end… and even then you’ll be thinking and waiting for the next story.  There is danger, history, sizzling sexy times, friends and foes… and a damned good story to be found in the latest addition to The Mercury Pack world.  And I loved every second back in this world.

To be frank, I, personally, don’t think a reader will get the full impact or understanding of the nuances of this world if they start at Echoes of Fire.  This is a series, and a spin off series, that really needs to be read in order.  This is a world… and to “get” that world you need to know the entire story of it… in my opinion.  Could you read this alone and enjoy it?  Of course.  Yet I don’t believe you’ll understand the whys of it all, or the underlying reasons.  If you possibly can, please consider starting at the beginning.

I was caught up in this world once again and would not hesitate to recommend Echoes of Fire and these two entire series to any Paranormal Romance, Shifter Romance reader who enjoys intricate stories, intriguing situations, a rarely seen shifter animal and a really good story to sink teeth or claws into.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
