For the airline executives finalizing a merger that would make news in the business world, the nine a.m. meeting would be a major milestone. But after marketing VP Paul Rogan walked into the plush conference room, strapped with explosives, the headlines told of death and destruction instead. The NYPSD’s Eve Dallas confirms that Rogan was cruelly coerced by two masked men holding his family hostage. His motive was saving his wife and daughter―but what was the motive of the masked men?

Despite the chaos and bad publicity, blowing up one meeting isn’t going to put the brakes on the merger. All it’s accomplished is shattering a lot of innocent lives. Now, with the help of her billionaire husband Roarke, Eve must untangle the reason for an inexplicable act of terror, look at suspects inside and outside both corporations, and determine whether the root of this crime lies in simple sabotage, or something far more complex and twisted.

J. D. Robb’s …in Death series is one of my ongoing non-guilty pleasures.  I have read each one, including novellas in anthologies, and I sincerely hope we never come to the ending of Eve and Roarke.  I’ve also been known to do a re-read of my favorites within this series.  So, yeah, I’m that addicted and these stories are just that good.  In doing a move of reviews from a smaller blog over to my main blog I discovered that while I had read LEVERAGE IN DEATH upon its release – somehow I never did a review.  How is that possible?!  So, I’m going to fix that right now (and yes, I did do a re-read over the weekend to be up-to-date on this story).

LEVERAGE IN DEATH brings me back to one of my favorite series, and an extra special group of secondary characters who feel more like revisiting family with each new adventure.

Why would someone strap a lethal bomb to their body and walk into a meeting, obviously unwillingly but determined, to kill not only themselves but others in the room as well?  That is the mystery that Eve, Roarke and crew have to sift through the clues to discover – and it’s going to be one heck of a journey before we discover the truth behind the crimes.

Actually, I’m not going to say anything about the actual murder(s) or clues because that would defeat the entire purpose of you enjoying this book for yourself.  And, you will enjoy LEVERAGE IN DEATH so much, especially if you’ve followed this series.

There are twists and turns, a mystery to solve, deeper developments in the relationship between Eve and Roarke – and always, another level of Eve’s growing closer to those she considers “hers”, Peabody and company.  It is as much for the mystery as it is for peeking in on the continuing lives of the other good guys that keep me returning to this series over and over.

LEVERAGE IN DEATH kept me flipping pages, immersing myself in this world once again and enjoying every single minute of my time in the …in Death world.  If you’re in the mood for a good mystery, a definite steamy romance between two people who truly fit, and lots of lively enjoyable secondary characters – then you’ll want to pick this one up real soon.
