A woman in search of a place to belong.

A man finally getting his second chance.

And a lingering secret that threatens to change everything…

Alex Benning has never known a true home. After inheriting her beloved aunt’s cottage in the small coastal town of Moon Harbor, Maine, she finally gets a chance to start over and leave the life of solitude behind. But she never expects to find herself face to face with her first love—the first man to ever break her heart.

Sam Waters stopped looking for love a long time ago. With a job he enjoys and people he cares about, he’s finally learned to be content with things just as they are. Until the one who got away comes back into his life and makes him crave more. The flame between Alex and Sam reignites and the sparks between them are brighter than ever.

But as Alex settles into her new home, she begins to uncover the truth about her family and the tragedy that changed her life all those years ago. With more questions than answers, Alex and Sam set out to discover what really happened. And the closer they get, the closer danger lurks.

Will Alex be able to survive the unraveling of old family secrets before it’s too late? Before she loses Sam forever?

Light in the Dark quickly captured my imagination as Alex and Sam reunite after years apart, and still with broken hearts because of the way they parted so long ago.  Seconds chances don’t come around all that often so it’s up to Sam and Alex to make the most of finding each other again… or leaving all the pain, and the possibilities in their past and walk away once again.

Their journey is full of tears, laughter, passion… and danger as the past rears its ugly head once again threatening to end that second chance at getting love right almost before it’s begun.

I enjoyed Light in the Dark.  The writing is smooth, the plot interesting and engaging, and the characters realistic as they face the past and all of the pain, anger, and truth that it holds.  I love discovering new authors, and Kate McWilliams’ debut story (and series) satisfied every need I have for a steamy, romantic suspense story.  I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next title in this series.

If you love getting to know an author’s work from the very beginning – love a good story with relatable characters – a story that draws you in and doesn’t let go… then you’d enjoy Light in the Dark.

This was a 4.5 star romance for me.
