Florist Ivy Birch fantasizes about the day a man will surprise her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Especially if that man happens to be Brett Hastings. One stolen kiss at her best friend’s wedding and Ivy can’t get the sexy ER doctor out of her head.
In the small town of Briar Creek, you can’t avoid anyone for very long. Not that Brett has been trying to avoid Ivy. He just can’t afford to let anything distract him from his work-not again. So when a hospital fundraiser throws them together, love is the last thing on his mind. But with her quick wit and sweet laugh, soon the one woman he’s tried to keep at arm’s length is capturing his heart.
Love Blooms on Main Street is a story full of sweetness yet brings attention to some more serious issues in life. It’s told with care and touches of realistic reasons for why our hero and heroine act and react as they do. Life can be complicated, and it takes all kinds to make this world spin. But just because one is a bit commitment shy doesn’t mean that love can’t come along and change just about everything.
Ivy has crushed on Brett for… well, it seems like forever. When a quick, surprise kiss at a friend’s wedding seems to open up possibilities, Ivy is a bit crushed herself to realize that Brett not only is avoiding her, but left town. Well, two can play that game as when Brett returns Ivy is doing her best to avoid the handsome doctor that she’d love to get closer to… but not when it’s so obvious that he doesn’t feel the same way. When these two are tossed together during the planning of a hospital fundraiser avoidance in no long an option for either – and then something happens that will change the direction of their lives forever.
I have enjoyed every story in the Briar Creek series. Seeing glimpses of previous couples woven through the current story is always a joy. There were times when Brett was a difficult hero to get behind. His determination to remain commitment free is at times annoying. I “got” why he has this issue, I simply wanted him to get over it sooner. Ivy is a well loved woman in her small town, but she’s hiding a secret from her friends that she really needs to be open about. She has a serious health issue, one that can be complicated yet dealt with daily with reasonable efficiency. But she does need a support system and I was sad to discover that she really had none. No woman is an island, especially when dealing with this condition. I know because my mother dealt with this through my life and without her support system of people who cared she would have been in serious trouble. I understood Ivy’s determination for independence, but having people who knew and could help, if needed, isn’t a weakness it’s smart.
Ivy and Brett were a unique couple who dealt with their issues… eventually. I loved them both and their story was very satisfying – in the end.
If you love small town living and the sweetness side of love then you’ll enjoy Love Blooms on Main Street. It’s a good, solid Romance that I would highly recommend along with the rest of this series.
