Screams. Flames. Shivering alone in the bitter Alaskan night – That’s all I can remember from before.
I don’t know where I came from or who I am, and I’m fairly certain I don’t want to. I am absolutely certain about Andi Campbell, though; she’s my light at the end of the tunnel, but I can’t tell her that.
Most of True, Alaska, still shuns me because I won’t speak, but not The Campbells – and that would change if they ever found out what Andi and I did when her mother was missing last summer. Andi seems to agree, and we steer clear of each other now.
But Andi’s sister Delilah is getting married, and it’s impossible to avoid one another at Hennessy Cove, the secluded inn the bride and groom booked for their intimate ceremony. From the moment we touch down, something about the place fills me with dread. And every time I cross paths with the smiling innkeeper, I break out in a cold sweat.
Knowing Andi’s sleeping in the room next door just makes that fever worse.

Midnight Son is the second story in the True Alaskans series and brings us Boone and Andi’s story. Told in the point of view of both Boone and Andi, it is also full of flashbacks that will bring Boone’s past into his present and answer questions he cannot remember the answers to. Boone’s choice to not speak has affected how the townspeople of True, Alaska treated him in the past and even now. But not Andi, she has always been his champion, his friend and his one true love, but that’s something he cannot tell her. They have a history that is kept between them but also has distanced them as well. Now back home for Andi’s sister’s wedding, old feelings are going to come to the surface – and danger from Boone’s past will finally bring answers.
Although I prefer, whenever possible, to read a series in order if you haven’t read True Gold yet you will still enjoy and understand the events in Midnight Son. You’ll be missing a bit of background, and of course, know more about the first story’s outcome but this one could be read on its own.
I enjoyed Andi and Boone’s story. It’s full of suspense, waiting for the other shoe to fall, and two people finally letting themselves express what they feel for each other. Their story flowed smoothly, the flashbacks answered questions that I had, and one vile villain comes to light. If you like solving puzzles, a bit of tension between the main characters, and seeing love conquer the past, then you’ll want to pick up Midnight Son.
