What is ‘perfect’ trying to hide?
Jen Garner tries her best to be ‘wife and mother of the year’. She helps organize school plays and accompanies her husband to company dinners, all with a big smile on her face.
But Jen has started to receive strange gifts in the post … first flowers, then a sympathy card.

Title: Perfect Lie
Series:
Author: Claire Sheldon
Genre: Mystery
Published: June 16, 2020
Publisher: Choc Lit/Ruby Fiction
My Rating: 4.5 stars
There are times when a debut novel feels like a well-established writing style or even a series (which I hope this will turn out to be and I may have had that wish granted). ‘Perfect Lie‘ struck me as the work of a writer’s mind who has been published for some time. The details, the intricate twists that you’ll never see coming, the overall plot, and that ending. Claire Sheldon has given us an amazing debut story, and I cannot wait to see what she gives us next.
I’m usually very cautious about spoilers in any review, but especially Mystery novels. It’s so easy to ruin a good book for someone by a careless word or two. So, I will be vague yet that does not reflect on how much I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Perfect Lie‘ from the opening scene to a breath-stealing ending.
Told from the perspective of Jen, a loving wife, a devoted mother simply living a good normal life, who suddenly disappears when the ghost of her past life comes after her again, her husband, James, as he desperately searches for his missing beloved wife with understandable frustration, and finally, Detective Inspector Chris Jackson as he must put the clues and the twists together to solve not only Jen’s disappearance but other activity going on in the area recently.
And that is all of this plot you’re going to get from me. ‘Perfect Lie‘ had me captured from the opening scene. It’s so easy to feel the desperation, the frustration, the fear, the determination of each character throughout this story. There are mind-boggling twists and turns throughout, and not a few surprises to make life even more interesting. I was caught up in this story, read it in one sitting, and sincerely hope that this is only the beginning of a new series and a fabulous writing career. If you love a really good Mystery then you need to pick up this one… right now.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Choc Lit/ Ruby Fiction. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
