Life can take a wicked turn in the blink of an eye!

On a single fateful day, Sage Rivers loses her job, her deadbeat boyfriend, and her apartment.

Talk about a run of bad luck.

Sage’s life is turned upside down, however, when a sassy little calico cat informs her that she’s a witch and has inherited a bookshop in Spellcaster Creek.

There’s just one tiny hitch—Sage learns that she is a book witch, and since her magic awakens, she sees a spirit every time she touches a book. It’s a bit much, and when a local businessman strolls in and offers a generous sum for the shop, Sage considers leaving her newfound magic life behind.

Sage’s plans hit a snag, however, when she soon stumbles over a dead body, becoming one of the prime suspects in the case.

With no other choice, Sage finds herself thrust into a spellbinding mystery, working with an arrogant and cocky local guardian named Hunter. She just has to dodge danger, unravel secrets, and win the trust of her new town before she becomes the next victim of the mystery murderer.

Can she conquer her fears and embrace a new life of magic before she becomes the latest victim?

Potions and Peril begins the Wicked Witches of Spellcaster Creek series with a fun and intriguing introduction story as we meet Sage and learn just how she ended up in this magical place that she’s not too sure she actually believes all this hocus-pocus that supposedly happens around here.  I’ve enjoyed Mara Webb’s storytelling and, quite frankly, I was hooked at the idea of a “book witch” and that aspect of the story was so magical, funny, and fits right in with the residents of Spellcaster Creek.

Frankly, it was one mischievious, talkative cat, Callie, who really won my heart and earned every laugh I had while reading Sage and Callie’s adventures.  I love a sassy feline companion in Paranormal Cozy Mysteries, and this little calico certainly was a major character in my mind throughout their story.  Add in one mysterious guardian, Hunter, and a vile enemy to discover and I was completely hooked.  Of course, at first, Sage doesn’t buy any of this magical stuff that’s being tossed her way.  She’s more inclined to take the profits offered and get out of town… until slowly but surely Spellcaster Creek’s charm and its residents begin to grow on her, and perhaps she’s ready to start beliving in unusual possibilities.

I had fun here, and if you love getting in on the beginning of a fun, magical Paranormal Cozy Mystery series, then you’ll be quickly drawn in as well.  Potions and Peril is well-written, lively dialogue, fun characters (except for the villain), and definitely is a series that I will follow to find out what happens to Sage, Callie, and Hunter next.
