When Dr. Tobi Robinson returns to Whiskey River, Travis Sullivan is the only person to recognize that the smokin’ hot babe at the gala is actually his high school tomboy buddy. Time away has changed them both. Tobi, the prospective business major, became a doctor, while Travis, his pro baseball career ended by injury, converted his passion for flying into a charter flight business and flight school.

The easy friendship they enjoyed in high school soon deepens into desire and then love. But Tobi didn’t turn to medicine by chance—a horrific accident has left her unable to tolerate even approaching an airplane. As strongly as Travis draws her, Tobi isn’t sure she can ever trust her heart to a pilot. Can Travis convince the woman he’s discovered he can’t live without that their love can conquer every trauma?

I love returning to the established town of Whiskey River for a new series about another group of couples.  So while you do not have to have any experience with the original Whiskey River series to enjoy Rebel Pilot, Texas Doctor from the Devil’s Rock at Whiskey River series… I’d still recommend the original series as well for it’s an interesting, emotional series that I happened to love.

In their teens there might have been something special between Tobi and Travis.  Each considered the other a best friend, but the feelings went beyond that even though both were too unsure of themselves to really test those waters beyond an amazing kiss.  Each had their dreams planned out and went off to college with at least a friendship between them.  Travis went on to his short lived baseball career and Tobi… well, Tobi dropped off the map during college, communication between them had stopped and Travis had always wondered why.  Now Tobi is back in Whiskey River, although she’s using Lynn as her first name at their “introduction”.  A lot has changed for them both, yet that spark is still there between them.  Trouble is that Travis has chosen the one profession that Tobi is terrified of and will have nothing to do with, at all.  Now it’s up to Travis to get to the bottom of her fears and show her that second chances are always possible when the love is strong and true.

In many ways I’d call Rebel Pilot, Texas Doctor a slow burn romance with the love always simmering below the surface.  The “what ifs” and the “if onlys” are there but the past has to be faced for a very real fear of Tobi’s stands between a happy ever after for this couple.  One man’s patience, understanding and steadfast love… plus one rambunctious, adorable puppy… might hold the answers they both need.  I loved Tobi and Travis’ romance.  It’s a realistic, believable look at facing down a terrifying fear, and reaching out to take a risk when everything inside you shouts to walk away, the pain isn’t worth the chance.  Travis is strong, determined and will do anything to ease Tobi back into his world.  At times, Tobi seems standoffish and chilly, but that is her fear speaking.  Watching them, and Lucky, get beyond her barriers and learn to live and love without fear was a delightful journey.  I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of this series.  As always Eve Gaddy delivers a love story that’s down to earth and full of the hopes of love and forever.  If you love Contemporary Romance with interesting characters, a couple to cheer on and that special small town charm… then have I got a book for you.  Check out Rebel Pilot, Texas Doctor – I think you’ll enjoy yourself, I know I certainly did.
