Stella’s the lead singer and lead guitarist of The Blue Moon Gypsies and Stella used to be Mace’s girl. Mace broke up with her, though, and the loss of him rocked her world. But Stella gets a call, late at night (again) from one of the members of her crazy band. She has to go play clean up (again) and runs into Mace and a shed load of police and ends up getting shot.
Mace finds he doesn’t like it much that his ex-girlfriend got shot right in front of him but it’s worse. A very bad man has thrown down the gauntlet and all the Rock Chicks are in the firing line. Stella doesn’t want Mace to be the one to keep her alive, but she has no choice. Mainly because Mace isn’t giving her one.

All of the Rock Chick books are intense about things happening to that couple – yet, Rock Chick Reckoning ratchets up that level of intensity by having not only Stella as a target but every one of the Rock Chicks and those honorary Rock Chicks (friends close as a family) as well. I try not to have favorites in a series where I absolutely love every freakin’ story, I do try but Mace and Stella touched a core nerve and the way their story is also the story of every other member of this huge group that takes it to the top of that list (if I admitted to one) of favorite stories in the Rock Chick series.
A while back, Mace made a decision when he broke up with Stella. Oh, he had his Hot Bunch reason, but he made a mistake, a huge mistake because he wasn’t looking at the bigger picture he saw only what he wanted to see. And that not only broke Stella’s heart it’s going to make getting back into her heart and her life now that she needs his protection even harder because at some point he’s going to have to admit what he did and take the risk of breaking her heart all over again and his along with it if she can’t forgive him.
Of all the stories, the characters who become as real as my closest friend, Rock Chick Reckoning is the most intense, the one with the gripping the edge of the Kindle and flipping pages quickly, and even now, after several re-reads, the one that always has my heart pounding. When a story can still do that on the 3rd or 4th re-read – that’s one heck of an intense story! I tensed, laughed, cried, worried, and once again, stayed up way past my bedtime to finish this one – and it was worth every second spent with Mace, Stella, and their crews.
Rock Chick Reckoning is also the first time we get… hmm, confirmation of sorts about one character who is always around but quietly in the background. One sweet epilogue will give Kristen Ashley fans something to think about (if this is their first time reading). I long suspected it but reading it still put a huge smile on my face the first time, and every time since.
If you haven’t read this series – what are you waiting for? It won’t take long before you’re addicted to the Rock Chicks and the Hot Bunch and their adventures in love, danger, suspense, and wild nights.
