Just Life:

Well.  Whewww! *plops into a chair exhausted*

News that hasn’t been shared a lot previously is that in the last couple of months we have been house hunting, found the house we wanted (and could afford), waited impatiently for all the will we get the mortgage madness to pass… finally got the thumbs-up, then the closing a few weeks ago.  This past Wednesday we finally moved into a house that is ours, no landlord popping around being an annoying pest – all ours.

Of course, nothing goes smoothly so we found ourselves with 1/4th of our stuff moved when the movers “ran out of time and had to go to their next job”… WTH????  So instead of a chaos-filled moving day which we expected, we ended up scrambling to get friends to help move the rest of the house in vans… and it was not pretty, at all.  But we have an amazing circle of friends and people who care so it got done, eventually.  And that company will be dealt with for their actions.  Really?  Who in the world schedules another job after telling the customer that you paid for X amount of hours, but don’t worry if it goes over that time we’ll simply add on the additional hours it takes… and then just leaves with enough time to offload at our new home and then simply go away with the job not even half done???  I don’t think we even had time to be properly furious (that came later) because we had to figure out a way to get moved since our lease was up on that day… we had to get out, no other options.  But it got done, thanks to people who do care, so I guess in the end that’s what matters most.

So, needless to say, but my reviewing has gone down drastically – I’ve read on breaks and such but getting those reviews up was sporadic at best.  Something I need to apologize for.  Yet, the major chaos is behind us, unpacking has begun, my computer, Kindle, and all my notes on what I have read are firmly in place to start again.

What an absolutely mind-boggling couple of months!  But, we are home, maybe not a forever home, yet it’s all ours for the next few years to create an atmosphere that works for us and I’m loving that fact.  I’m a homeowner!  Yay!

Weekly New Book Haul:

Aside from my monthly Harlequin purchases (which are reviewed over on my Happily Ever After Romance blog) I haven’t picked up much for this blog because, honestly, I have so many NetGalley reviews that need to go up and those need to take priority over everything else.  Maybe something will catch my eye this week as I post reviews – that’s always when I do my spontaneous book shopping.  🙂

This post has turned into a “sorry I went missing but this is why” kinda tale with little to do with books… but they will come, next week, promise.  Until then I hope you have a fantastic reading week filled with interesting books.  And if you’re in the USA — Happy Fourth of July!!

Weekly Wrap-Up Sunday Post #10

Another crazy week in paradise!  Kinda.  Sorta.

Just Life:

It’s been rather quiet around the homestead this past week – no major events, just getting through this pandemic… and the political scene.  I swear I’m going to avoid Twitter for a full 24 hours just to get a cleanse going on from all the political crap.

Did get to social distance visit with my best friend this week, that was the highlight.  Well, it’s mentionable because she’s moving to Tennessee at the end of October – and this damned quarantine is keeping us from doing stuff together before she goes.  But we got to spend an hour together on my patio enjoying the sunshine (and the annoyance of shouting over the neighbor’s lawnmower – grr – of course he was done when she was ready to leave!).

Last week on the blog:

Reviews were kinda light, for a change.

Dead Man Talking by Jana DeLeon

The Cowboy and His Runaway by Kaci Rose (this one might have triggers)

A Nanny Called Alice by Barbara Hannay

The Haunting on Palm Court by Stephanie Edwards

Dawn with a Duke by Erica Ridley

Once Hunted, Twice Shy by Mandy M. Roth

A Cowboy’s Proposal by C. J. Carmichael

What Not to Wear to a Graveyard by Debra Sennefelder

The Watcher by Jennifer Pashley

New Books Added to the TBR:

I was actually pretty good this week.  I did add J.D. Robb’s newest, Shadows in Death – the next Eve Dallas & Roarke adventure is an absolute must for me.  And nothing from NetGalley (for a change).  A slow week in gathering books, but I’ve plenty to keep me occupied *looks at the Kindle* – yeah, I got books to read.  🙂

Have yourself a good week – read some great books – and stay safe.

Thank Goodness This Week Is A Wrap! #5

Posted January 19, 2020 by Marsha in Discussion Post, Thank Goodness This Week Is A Wrap / 2 Comments

Another crazy week in paradise!  Kinda.  Sorta.

This post has been shared on The Sunday Post, a weekly recap from so many amazing blogs hosted by Kimberly over at Caffeinated Reviewer.

It’s snowing outside right now.  Not a ton like my Northern friends are experiencing but enough to coat the roads – and it’s freezing out there.  Harley (my Sheltie) is doing her “No, it’s cold I don’t wanna go out.” thing again but treats work wonders for enticing her out into the cold and rewarding for a job well done.  🙂  Yeah, I’m sneaky like that.

An inside picture – but she’s still cute 🙂

Reviews this week include:

Some were ARCs, scheduled posts that went live this week (gosh, I love scheduled posts!) and I managed to read 3 titles that I bought in January which is one of my main goals this year – to actually read what I’ve bought in a more timely fashion.  So, not a bad week at all.

Decided to join some Challenges this year (again).  I’ve made the posts and a Reading Challenges 2020 page but I still have to go officially sign up for them all.  Scattered, at times my brain is so, so scattered.  There are more than usual, yet many can be crossed over from different Challenges so we’ll see.  It’s the fun of it that matters to me so maybe 2020 is the year I’ll remember to keep updated!  One can dream.

That’s about it.  No new purchases or ARCs this week – weird, I know, but there ya go.  I hope your week is full of good reading experiences.  🙂

Thank Goodness This Week Is A Wrap! #2

Posted December 1, 2019 by Marsha in Discussion Post / 8 Comments

*wipes brow* Whew!  Survived a rough week and came out the other side still smiling, still functional, still getting my feet back under me from the stomach flu that ran rampant through my family.  I feel like singing “I Will Survive” quite loudly.  🙂

I’ve decided to add my own weekly wrap up to everyone else’s over at Caffeinated Reviewer.  Kimberly has created such a welcoming feature/meme with the Sunday Post that this is the perfect way to keep me accountable by also posting over there.  The link is up above, so go visit if you haven’t already discovered this pretty amazing woman’s site.  I always (always) come away with more book ideas, end up spending book money (I’m sure Amazon loves when I go visit a Sunday Post offering) and discover lovely blogs.  So you should check it out, soon.

How in the world did it get to be December 1st?  I mean – really, how?  I’ve accomplished some of what I’ve got written in that cute planner of mine, but certainly not all that I had intended.  And… I need to map out the changes and plans for my two blogs for 2020 (like now) so I can start the scheduling of posts for 2020.

Do you hold over unfulfilled plans from the previous year… or rework them into something different… or just scrap them?  I kinda do a combination of all of that.  Some things that sounded like the greatest idea ever – weren’t, so those get scrapped.  Then I usually rework the things that didn’t get done but still really need to be accomplished in maybe a different format or plan.  If it couldn’t get my attention last year then I have to change it up to work next year – or at least that’s my thinking on unfulfilled blog goals.

I’ve managed to get almost caught up from the 7-10 days when I could barely sit at the computer for more than half an hour – still have 4 reviews that need up today so they’ll be in that “publication week” deadline.  Life happens to all of us, but I try very hard when that happens to at least get reviews that I’ve committed to up and online before the start of the next “publication week” for the next round of releases.  Sometimes I win that battle, sometimes I lose depending on how hard “life” hit that time.  But I’m feeling good that I’ll be caught up and able to get to work on scheduled posts as well as current ones in the next day or so.  Not bad really, not after coming back looking like a “Walking Dead” extra with really bad zombie makeup.  🙂

Okay, I think that’s gonna wrap it up.  I will start listing the reviews done and the ones scheduled at some point, probably nearer to the New Year.  I truly want to be a bit more organized before I start that so I need another week or so to pull that schedule together.

I hope your week is awesome and full of really, really good books!

Sunday Post #1 – Memorial Day Weekend

Posted May 26, 2019 by Marsha in Discussion Post / 23 Comments

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.  See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

I have loved visiting the blogs that follow The Sunday Post and decided that it’s time to join up myself.  Hey, you can never have enough book-friends, right?

Away from the Keyboard News –

For the last month, I’ve been sorta quiet and there have been a few reasons for that.  One reason is simply amazing – the other sucked sour pickle juice.  My amazing news is that I finally got brave and had cataracts removed from both eyes, about 2 weeks or so apart.  I cannot even begin to describe how beautiful the world truly is when you can actually see it.  My final appt. is this coming week for the last checkup and glasses for distance.  Now here is something I never knew, you actually have a choice to be near-sighted or far-sighted after this surgery because the lens is removed (that’s what the cataract is growing on) and basically, a grounded pair of glasses in the form of the new lens is the replacement.  Really, I had no clue, and of course, I said let me see up close again without glasses!  *huge grin*  I’ll need glasses to see distance and that is part of what this week’s appointment is about.
