Teaser Tuesday #11

Posted May 12, 2015 by Marsha in This one's a Keeper / 13 Comments

teaser tuesdayOne of the fun parts of taking part in blog hops (aside from getting to visit new to me blogs) is finding great ways to interact with other book lovers.  This is one:

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I seem to be on an Historical Romance slant recently for my non-review planned reading.  This is from the book currently on my reading table.

The Scandalous Secret of Abigail MacGregor“Abby came awake abruptly with a yank on her hair, and a hand over her mouth.  She had no time to cry out before another hand fell over her throat and dragged her into the shadows. ~ The Scandalous Secret of Abigail MacGregor.”

A LADY’S MISSION…
Known for her beauty and boldness, Abigail MacGregor must preserve her clan’s dangerous secret: that her mother is the true heir to the English Crown. If the wrong people find out, it will mean war for her beloved Scotland. To keep peace, she embarks for London, unprepared for the treachery that awaits—especially from her wickedly handsome escort. He is the enemy, but his slow, sensuous kisses entice her beyond reason…

A WARRIOR’S TEMPTATION
General Daniel Marlow, loyal knight and the kingdom’s most desirable hero, would rather be on the battlefield than transporting a spoiled Highland lass. But Abby MacGregor is unlike any woman he’s ever met, in a ballroom or in his bedroom. Captivated by her daring spirit and seduced by her lovely innocence, Daniel must choose between betraying his queen or giving up the woman who would steal his country—and his traitorous heart.

“Why are you still alive?”  The curious voice came from beside her because he was there watching, as he’d watched for hours.  “Why don’t you give in?  You know you want to just close your eyes and let go.”

She did.  She wanted to close her eyes and pretend that she was just having a bad dream.  A nightmare.  When her eyes opened again, she’d be someplace different.  Someplace without monsters.

He came closer to her, and she felt something slide into the sand with her.  A knife.  He liked to use his knife.  It pricked her skin, but then he lifted the knife and pressed the blade against her skin.

“I can end this for you.  Do it now.  Just tell me…”  His words were dark.  Tempting.  “Tell me that you want to die.”

I have just started this novel.  That snippet is from the very beginning of the novel.  We don’t know much – yet.  But we know enough to be afraid.

Broken (Lost)Broken by Cynthia Eden

Ex-SEAL and LOST founder Gabe Spencer is accustomed to the unusual in his job. But when knockout Eve Gray steps into his office, he’s rattled. For the mysterious woman is a dead ringer for the heiress thought to be the latest prey of the serial killer who goes by the name Lady Killer.

When Eve awoke in an Atlanta hospital, her past was a blank slate. Then she recognized her own face in the newspaper and vowed to learn the truth. Determined to confront the nightmares hidden in her mind, she never expects to find a partner in Gabe.

As Gabe and Eve work together, their explosive attraction becomes irresistible. Gabe knows that his desire for Eve is growing too strong, bordering on a dangerous obsession, but nothing pulls him away from her. And when another Eve lookalike disappears, Gabe vows to protect Eve at all costs. While Eve may have forgotten the killer in her past, it’s clear he hasn’t forgotten her.

I went a little beyond 2 sentences.  But that passage was just so striking – I knew it would be enough to grab my attention.  How about yours?  Leave me a link to your Teaser Tuesday – there is always room on the TBR pile for more.

He wanted to call out–to stop them–but he could not.

Somewhere in the deep recesses of his mind he knew how to speak.  He even had a vague recollection of the sound of his voice.  He knew what it was to scream, even the joyful release when he did it.  But the word to describe this?  Even though he could sometimes think it, his mouth refused to curve around the word.  For years, his survival had depended on muteness.  Now, he could not seem to make his mouth remember how to form syllables, words, coherent sounds.

(I know, it’s longer than two sentences – but it’s so worth it  Forgive this one?  😉 )

And then he frowned , because there was no pulsing warmth oozing now. No sticky residue on his skin. His fingers probed, and then he bowed his head, staring at his bared chest. His clean bared chest.

No blood . No wound. He blinked, pressing both hands to his chest now, moving them, pressing again, searching for the bullet hole. It had seemed gaping before. Maybe it was just smaller than it seemed.

“There’s nothing there, Duncan ,” Arianna said. “You died. Right there on the floor. We cleaned you up, and put you on the couch. In less than an hour the wound healed and you revivified . You’re alive now, and there’s no hole in your chest because you’re immortal.”

He gaped at her, then stared up at Raven. “I know it’s shocking the first time,” she whispered. “I know how difficult this is for you to believe. But, Duncan, we didn’t mean to. Arianna was aiming at me–”

“Oh, but this is so much better. Really drives the point home.”

Shayne, Maggie (2013-01-10). Eternity: Immortal Witches Book 1 (The Immortal Witches) (pp. 297-298). . Kindle Edition.

“The sun hurts, but it can’t hurt her anymore.”  The child paused, tracing small fingers over the curve of the tombstone.  “She said she couldn’t wait to see the sun rise again, but all the stars are suns and she’d be watching us from them always.”  ~from Eternal Neverland: Steps Before The Fall by Natasha Rogue
