I have made no secret of the fact that Nora Roberts is my favorite author.  Many come in at second place (it seems to rotate through all of my favorites) but I will be waiting in line, in the pouring rain to get my hands on a new release by Nora Roberts.  So my pick for this week should be no surprise.  Since I didn’t get my greedy hands on an ARC – The Liar will be available in a few weeks and I cannot wait.

There are so many books that I want to read – I know realistically I cannot get to all of them.  But is one that I do want to read.  It’s so easy to slip into a “group” of novels that we read all the time so that it’s almost a no-brainer as to what we’ll pick up next.  I want to shake up my reading just a bit and i think this is a good start toward that goal.

Abducted at the age of sixteen and coerced into assisting the Jacoby crime family, Shannon Bliss has finally found a way out. She desperately wants to resume some semblance of normal life, but she also knows she has some unfinished business to attend to. She has enough evidence to put her captors behind bars for a very long time.

When Shannon contacts private investigator and former cop Matthew Dane to help her navigate her reentry into society, she quickly discovers that gaining her freedom doesn’t mean her troubles are over. For one thing, her brother is the leading candidate in the race for Illinois governor, and news of her escape will create a media frenzy. For another, the ransom her family reportedly paid years earlier appears to have been a scam; no one knows what happened to the money. And then there’s the fact that Shannon’s escape involved faking her own death. If the Jacoby family learns she is still alive, they’ll stop at nothing to silence her.  

If justice is to be done, and if Shannon’s life is ever to get on track again, Matthew will need to discover exactly what happened to her–even if it means stirring up a hornet’s nest of secrets.

I don’t know why the concept of this novel grabs me so.  But the moment I read the synopsis I knew that I had to read this one.  So, who knows – I’ve requested it at NetGalley but if I don’t get approved I’ll end up waiting ’til launch which is April 28, 2015.  Either way, I’ll let you know through a review if it was all i thought it would be.  🙂

I am such a fan of Jayne Ann Krentz and her historical alter-ego, Amanda Quick.

Garden of Lies is due out on April 15, 2015.  Definitely looking forward to another Quick trip back in history.

Isn’t it funny how different countries end up with different covers.  After giving it serious consideration I think I actually like the United Kingdom cover better.   It speaks more of mystery, murder and mayhem to me… in my opinion, anyway. 🙂

In the past few weeks, I’ve read several posts (and commented on some) about the lack of Romance novels (or many genre for that matter) featuring women over 30.  No matter who the novels are targeted at, there seems to be a true absence of heroines who are beyond their 20’s.  Now I’m going to read any novel that catches my eye, no matter the age of the main characters.  But the conversation has gotten me thinking and more aware of the novels that I’m picking up lately.  (Yes, I am over 30).

So my pick today is a Romance (not a true cougar romance, but an age difference) where the Heroine is not a sweet, young thing but a mature woman who wasn’t looking for love, but wasn’t too afraid to take a chance.

When newly divorced Kate Adams is approached on the sunny deck of a California hotel by hockey star David Burke, and he invites her to dinner, she almost says no. He’s obviously younger than her. And charming. And drop dead gorgeous. But there’s also something sweet about David, so Kate—who hasn’t done anything spontaneous in a very long time—accepts his invitation.
