The Love Lottery series starts off with a brother, sister, and their best friends all experiencing the most awful luck believable – you recall that saying “if it weren’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all”? Yeah, that is exactly how this group of friends comes to a very unique solution – enter into a lottery to win an old, historic (dilapidated) inn on the Maryland shore and bring it back to life and maybe change all of their luck in the process. The Accidental Fiancé is the first story in the series as it sets the background, introduces us to this pretty amazing group, and brings not only the challenges of renovating the inn but the possibility of finding love for Alex and Sydney along the way.
I had such a good time in this world. There is laughter, frustration, bad luck, and new possibilities around the corner for all of these people as long as they’re willing to take the risk, and putting in the hard work needed. Sydney vowed to never return to her hometown, but when her grandmother needed her the most Sydney could no longer stay away. Now that she’s assured that Gran isn’t dying she’s staying in town for a short time to be nearby while her grandmother goes through treatment and heals. She might have created a fake fiancé and now she needs to convince Alex that her grandmother’s assumption that he is that fiancé is true, at least for a few months. Neither expected that fake relationship to become real emotions that need to be handled with care.
The Accidental Fiancé captured my imagination, the characters felt real, even the situation they all found themselves in could have easily happened. Watching Alex and Sydney go from strangers to accomplices to lovers was a roller coaster ride with a happy ending. I cannot wait to return to this world and find out what happens next.
