Johnny Gamble isn’t afraid of anything. Except Fiona Lannigan’s effect on him. It’s not just that she sees through his love ‘em and leave ‘em ways, she’s also his partner in Whiskey River’s most prestigious law firm. He believes she deserves better than him until they “matched” at the annual Valentine’s Day dance and the night turns into one of the most romantic of his life. Convincing him that he’s found a woman he doesn’t want to leave.
Fiona is all for a good time with Johnny. There have been sparks between them from the beginning, but more than one night between the sheets isn’t in the cards. Or so she thinks, until Johnny turns on the romance.
Can Johnny convince Fiona that this is one Valentine’s Gamble worth taking?
Read on for my thoughts on The Valentine Gamble. No true spoilers, promise.
*Please note: This title, the series, the titles of the stories in the series and the covers have all undergone a transformation. The stories within the new covers with new titles remains the same.
The Valentine Gamble is a fun addition to the Whiskey River series. Johnny and Fiona are partners in the same law firm, they’ve known each other for over a decade and while they might occasionally have been flirting friends – they never took it further than that. Until one memorable kiss under the mistletoe started to change everything.
Johnny definitely has an eye for the ladies, but he’s steered clear of romantic commitment for good reasons, at least to him they are. Truth is that kiss under the mistletoe certainly started him thinking about Fiona more than he should be. But she’d never be interested in him, and the more important relationship was where they worked.
Fiona certainly knew that Johnny existed, hard to miss the handsome, sexy lawyer, but while she was willing to flirt she knew that it wouldn’t go further than that. Until that moment under the mistletoe when all of her safe ideas went right out the window.
Now they’ve been matched up for the annual Valentine event. And who knew that Johnny had a romantic streak in him or that after one perfect night they both would be considering much more.
It was such fun reading The Valentine Gamble. Friends to lovers is certainly a sassy style of romance, filled with all of those possibilities and worries as well. Each had their valid reasons to avoid romantic entanglements but emotions don’t work on logic. Taking a risk is never easy, but when Johnny and Fiona get past the work relationship and see what could be their future – the risk might just be well forth it.
*I received an e-ARC of The Valentine Gamble from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
**This series has had some changes made. The original titles of the stories within this series, as well as the series itself have changed. Formerly Whiskey River it is now The Brothers of Whiskey River. The covers and titles may have changed, but they are still the same amazing, good stories within.*
