Avery Spark is living her best life. Between her friends, her sisters, and Spark House, the event hotel her family owns, she doesn’t have much time for anything else, especially relationships. She’d rather hang out with her best friend and roommate, Declan McCormick, than deal with the dating scene. But everything changes when she is in a car accident and needs someone to care for her as she heals.
Declan avoids relationships, giving him a playboy reputation that he lives up to when he puts a one-night stand ahead of a promise he made to Avery. While he may not have been the one driving the car, he feels responsible for Avery’s injuries and is determined to make it up to her by stepping into the role of caretaker.
Little did they know that the more time they spend in compromising positions, the attraction they’ve been refusing to acknowledge becomes impossible to ignore. When they finally give in to the spark between them, neither is prepared for the consequences. Their love is fragile and all it will take is a blow from the past to shatter it all.

When Sparks Fly is the delightful beginning of the Spark House series. I frankly had read Starry-Eyed Love first and completely forgot that I had the first story downloaded and devoured it quite happily. Declan and Avery make such a sweet friends-to-lovers couple, even if it did take an accident for them to acknowledge the more-than-friends feelings between them.
There is so much to enjoy about Avery and Declan – but, also there were things that happened that were, quite frankly, difficult for me to go beyond. That’s a personal opinion/reaction and doesn’t really reflect on their romance only some things that push the wrong buttons for me. Declan made some mistakes, and it’s obvious that he felt bad about those choices yet best friends don’t treat each other like this usually so I really wanted to see some serious groveling. But, that’s me.
In all, When Sparks Fly is a fun rom-com that gives best friends the chance to risk their hearts when emotions beyond friendship come into play. The cover description gives you the most important details of their story. They each have issues yet they’re dealt with in a realistic fashion. I liked them even when I was annoyed with some of their actions. I had fun here, and that’s the entire point. If you love a good friends-to-lovers romance with unusual circumstances bringing that about then this one is perfect for you.
