Detective Dean Matheson has returned to his hometown to begin his new job and put the traumatic events of his past behind him – but his fresh start won’t last long when the local area is hit by a series of strange disappearances and twisted killings.
A nameless girl badly beaten and dumped in front of the mysterious new church.
A shocking murder scene discovered in the apartment over the diner.
A child missing without a trace.
These are the crimes Dean Matheson is confronted within his first week as detective. Are they isolated events, or is something altogether more disturbing happening in Maple Valley now that Dean’s back in town?
Title: Won’t You Save Me
Series: Dean Matheson #3
Author: Wendy Dranfield
Published: January 29, 2020
Publisher: Choc Lit / Ruby Fiction
My Rating: 4.5 stars
Won’t You Save Me is the third title in the Dean Matheson series, and in my opinion, each book has simply gotten better, a bit more devious, a little smoother, flows a touch easier, and the villains definitely get more wicked and evil as time moves on. While I prefer to read a series in order, you could step into this world here and not be the least bit lost. Anything you’d need to know is in the dialogue or narrative. It would most likely entice you to go back to the earlier books to get caught up. Yeah, it’s that good.
Dean is back in his home town of Maple Valley along with Eva. On his first day back as Detective life is going to get extremely interesting when a young girl’s body is dropped in front of the church – and not is all as it first appears. Soon the cases will increase, the plots thicken, the danger ratchets up and you’ll find yourself in the midst of several investigations that may or may not have a connection. Not to mention two adorable, mischievous kittens, Scully and Mulder (love, love the X-Files names) are added to this delightful mix. Buckle up, sweetheart, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
I do not, will not get into plot details in any book, especially a Mystery. Yet you’ll find lots to keep you glued to the page in Won’t You Save Me from near dead bodies, truly dead bodies, twists, turns, surprises and an evil bad enough to make your skin crawl. I’ve enjoyed the earlier book but I think this is the best of the series (so far). Ms. Dranfield weaves a Mystery with the strength and delicacy of a spider’s web. You’ll think you have everything you need to solve it, and maybe you do, but there is always something to step in and bite you on the arse that changes things just enough to keep the tensions high until the very end.
I’m definitely hooked in this world and will no sooner finish one story then I’m anticipating how long I must wait until the next release. If an author can always keep me wanting more, then I’ll always return for that promise. If you love a good, solid Mystery then Won’t You Save Me should be on your e-reader bookshelf right now.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Choc Lit/Ruby Fiction. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
